i have had my paperwheel sharpener for about two weeks. man, this thing gets your knives scarey sharp in about 5 mins. the only down side is that you have to watch your grind carefully not to take off too much metal to get the edge preped for the paper wheel to polish the edge to razor sharp. the blades get so sharp that i can do the paper cut test and cut the paper into 1/2" strips by only pushing the blade into the paper, not slicing. i sharpened my kitchen knives but didn't sharpen them too sharp. don't want to come home and find my wife bled out on the floor. she has cut herself before because she wasn't careful with what she was doing. these knives now take your undivided attention when using them.

BTW,This should probably be in Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment

i have heard so many good things about richard and his wheels. hopefully ill have more good things to say when my s30v blur gets home to me.

I'm with you monster. I've had mine for a few weeks now and have never got my knives this sharp, EVER! And it only takes a few seconds. I dont even put mine on the grit wheel. I just put them on the paper wheel and polish the edge. Just got through doing my para tonight, two strokes across the paper wheel and it was sharper than it's ever been. Sliced through newspaper like it was hot butter.
And richard is a great guy. He has helped me over and over, he is willing to help anyone that needs it. Just let him know, and he ha great sharpening deals $1.00 per inch any knife.

Isn't wheel grinding supposed to affect the heat treat? I would hate to have a knife fail because I softened the edge.

Quick, light passes, keeping an eye on the temperature you feel in your finger tips.... if you can't hold onto the blade it's probably getting too hot. Dunk in water and wipe dry then back to the belt/wheel or other power option.

I don't have wheels yet but I'm probably going to try them. I currently use my VS Burr King as my sharpener to put the initial edges and raise the burr then off to stones and a stropping.
