Paper Wheel Sharpeners?

Hello all

I was just wondering if any of you have a paper wheel and how well it does sharpening your rats?

thanks

I have the paper wheels. I love the system. I can take a badly damaged edge to shaving sharp in less than 5 minutes. Usually I only need to use the slotted wheel with the polishing compound to touch up an edge. It leaves a poloished, scary sharp edge with very little effort and time. It just takes a little practice to get used to the system. I grabbed all of my old pocket knives and practiced on them. Then I went to my kitchen knives. After that, I was good to go. I highly recommend the system.

I have the system that Richard J introduced to the forums and highly recommend it. It is easy to use, cheaper than a system like the edge pro and gives me a better finished product.

I was reading the other thread, but he doesn't say what system it is. Which system is he referring to?

Sorry just seen this. The one he has is the same as cotmurp posted. I got a 6" grinder from harbor frieght and the 8" deluxe set from Grizzly.

I have seen a lot of medium used for carrying the rouge to finish and edge. I have a friend who used particle board wheels . Anything that will pick up and hold the rouge will work but the paper and cotten and even felt wheels sem to work best. You can get diferent shaped felt wheels so if you have really tight v-shaped cutting edges to get into with rouge they can be shaped to fit the contour to be polished. It is the rouge that does the polishing I think rather than the medium carrying it.

Can anyone make a recommendation on a bench grinder for the 8" wheels? It seems the bench grinder market is full of junk.

Figuring out paper wheels is one of my 2010 knife resolutions. The bench grinder is the first step, but I'm trying to avoid buying Chinese goods these days so my options are surprisingly limited. Waiting for a used one to show up on craigslist or at a garage sale.

Honestly, go to Harbor Freight and get the cheapest grinder they have. You dont need any fancy grinder to run these.
