Hey guys,

If you've seen my earlier posts in general and Spyderco's forum, You've seen that when i got my pe Spyderhawk it came very dull.

I don't want to send it in if I don't have to.. So my question is, have any of you used paper wheels to sharpen a hawk bill blade? I don't think it would be too much trouble and if it works, that would be awesome. So, if someone like Richard who has immense experience with paper wheels has sharpened hawkbills on them, Chime in.

Also, has anybody used flitz on spyderco's with success? I imagine that you would go with the "grain" to keep from making unwanted scratches.

thanks guys.

I have a Tina hawkbill and I have sharpened it on the Razor Sharp Paper Wheels. I would grade my work at about a C. I got it sharp as I need, but my bevel was lacking. I used the corners of the wheel for the curves. My hand is not too steady. It can be done well if you have smooth butter like motion while sharpening. Richard J will probably chime in for you. He may have a better solution. Flitz is great, rub with the "grain" finish, but there will be no scratching from Flitz. You should make sure your cloth is clean of debris, because foreign partlicles on the cloth could scratch. I found that out the hard way once. Beach sand was on a rag, and I went to Flitz off a blade, and the polish nested the sand grains and put some scratches in there. Live and learn. Great stuff here.

i sharpen hawk bills and recurves on the wheels. i have a sweet case hawkbill that i wasnt able to sharpen very easy until i bought the wheels. it takes a lot of practice.

hmm, very interesting information... i'll definitely sharpen some other blades with recurves or curved pieces of metal before i try on my spyderhawk.. and if that doesn't work i'll just send it in to be sharpened.. input is still welcome;)
