have any of you tried black compound on the polishing wheel? if so what was your result?
im looking for a toothier edge because the one i get with the white compound seems to glide off certain materials.

Not tried it, so I can't help with experience. May be a little "toothier" than you like...idunno.

Do you have any stones? The reason why is that I do have the paper wheels, and love them for the right application, and if I want a toothy edge I sharpen like normal on both wheels then grab a stone. Take a swipe down each side of the edge and BINGO.

By varying the pressure (not necessarily finding the *perfect* stone) you can get varying results. Start with a very very very light swipe down a 1K stone...I like that edge. For absolutely no good reason, I believe you get the best results if you can do it with just one swipe.

I've only tried the veritas 0.5 micron CrO compound, with no noticeable increase in sharpness.

I would simply recommend maybe 6 micron DMT diamond paste on a strop after the polishing wheel. Gives you that nice "crisp" edge.
