For some reason I can't get these things to spin completely true. There is a small bit of "wobble" that is noticeable on both wheels, the buffing wheel more so than the other.

1. Are there some tricks to making these fit so they spin completely even? The grinding wheels were both straight as can be.

2. Is this really not that big of a deal?

Thanks! I'm starting today either way i think. Something is getting sharpened, don't know what, but something.

If you have one vibrating really hard due to side to side wobble, try rotating the washer spacer holders, if you forward backward wobble, I believe it mentions to bring a file/rasp and shave off the out of balance part gently. It is in the manual. I have a little hum to mine and they are not perfect, but it works just fine. I guess it will even out more and more over time. Hopefully Richard J will chime in, if not, send him a PM. I would bet dollars to donuts that he is willing to help you out via better tech support than I can.

If your wobble is not too severe, like mine, try sharpening a beater knife and see if you get good results. Good results meaning smooth polished edges with the ability to effortlessly shave off arm hair. That is the result I get. Make sure you work up a burr on each side first!

Thanks. I re-read the manual and it does state some wobble is fine. I messed with loosening and rotating and different tightnesses on the nuts and it is probably the best its going to get, which is pretty good compared to how wobbly they were at the start.

Waxed up the grit wheel, time to go look for something cheap to sharpen. I might grind some of these pos miracle blades we got as a gift down for fun. Eventually I got a cheap machete I want to try to sharpen on these as well, but might wait on that one. Got some cactus begging for a sharp machete though.

madman, do you have the wheels made by mike or someone else? every wheel i have from mike runs true and if there is any runout i can correct it by spinning the wheel slightly or flip the wheel from one side to the other. http://www.sharpeningwheels.com/

I have the Razor Sharp sharpmaking wheels. I purchased them from Grizzly industrial supply. They are pretty close, the only thing I didn't try was flipping them around. I guess I will try that. I've already put some use in 'em the way they are now, I'll mess with them some more though.
