Paper wheels mounted on fan motor?

So I've got an old oscilating-type, 3-speed fan (prob $20 at wallmart). I disconnected the motor & mounted it securely. The only specs I've got on it is:
115Vac, 60Hz, 1 Amp.
I think the above might translate to 1/6 horsepower?

I read that paper wheels should be run at 3000rpm. Would my fan motor be adequate? What if the wheels only reach 1500rpm?

2nd Question: How can I mount the wheels on the fan's axle/spindle/bore/arbor thingie? It's a simple smooth axle, 5/16 inch diameter, and "D" cross-sectioned. I think I would need some sort of adapter, but dont know where to look.

I dont think the fan motor has enough torque to be used as a buffer/sharpener. Also I would be willing to bet the bearings would not stand up to that use for very long if at all.

Doesnt even have "ball" bearings; oiled bushings more like.
I didnt think of buffing as a hi-torque job. Too me, a knife blade doesnt seem to offer more resistance than air on fan-blades would.

When used as a fan, the motor would get quite hot to the touch, if this means anything.

KG has it right. Even if it does not have visible bearings the motor is not designed to work under that much stress. Without the required torque it would bog down very easy and probably burn itself out. Especially if it gets hot just from moving air. All in all it sounds like an accident waiting to happen. At the very least it will be time and effort wasted or maybe even a trip to the local ER.
