I am going to buy everything to sharpen with paper wheels but what bench grinder should i buy that is under 60$???? How do you have your systems set up?

My paper wheels arrived today, I mounted them on a new Lowes variable speed grinder I picked up for $67. AWESOME and I am covered in band aids on my left hand. All my knives will now shave arm hair and this is the first time I have used this type of a set up. Check out Lowes variable 200 -3600 rpm 6" bench grinder with light. Worked great and the least expensive, decent model I found. The Harbor Freight models are less expensive but I have had issues with their QC on their equipment and the bushings going out quickly.

make sure you read my paper wheel tips page. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=608864

i sharpen with the wheels rotating to me and with the blade held around the 1:00 position give or take. i'm able to watch the burr form and also see exactly where i'm holding the blade. matching up an existing angle is much easier this way too.

holding the blade at the 9:00 position with the edge down will not let you see what you are doing, the same with the wheels going away from you with the edge facing away from you.

if the one at hd is variable speed it should work just fine. if you start looking from the last page of my paper wheel thread back, you will find a picture of a setup from lowes. there is a picture of a different motor on the last page but the motor was a little more than the one at lowes.

Garage sales are another place to look though in the winter there aren't too many happening.

i think most of them are 3400 rpm which is too fast in my opinion. rwt had some problems with his hf grinder being junk so i think i would steer clear of their grinders.
