HEY guys I'm going to try the paper wheel method of sharpening. If anyone uses this system and could tell me their experiences I would appreciate it. One of my questions is which grinder to get. Thanks for the help.

I have had my paper wheels for about 2 years and have great results with them. I have a small part time business where I use the wheels to sharpen all types of knives. I bought a Harbour Freight 6 inch buffer for $39 and it works great for me. Some prefer a slower running motor in the 1700 rpm range, but the wheels are rated for up to 3600 rpm. The H F buffer runs at 3500. I have not had any adverse effects using the 3500 rpm machine. If you go slow and let the wheels do the work and pay attention, the 3500 rpm speed will not overheat or remove too much metal.

The above mentioned thread has a lot of good information in it. I would recommend reading through it from start to finish if you have the time and patience.

Blessings,

Omar

Agreed. Also if you are interested RichardJ will call you and go over the finer point of using the wheels.
As for usage. I use the grit wheel about 1 out of every 10 times I use them. The slotted stopping wheel is the best thing around. I use the HF buffer as well. I can see the benefit of a slower grinder, especially when you're learning.
