i am thinking that paper wheels on a buffer is the most cost effective way of sharpening(if i read the forums on the subject correctly),so i am planning to get this setup. i am also wondering if you can use paper wheels to put a mirrorfinish over the entire blade.

also you guys piss me off. i see pictures of your knives and i see clean ,precise bevels with very clear lines. mine look like they were ground by a two year old. how do you do it?

I would skip the grit wheel that come with most paper wheel kits, I think its too coarse and the grit does not last long enough. Paper wheels are great for the final edge. I get a burr with the belt usually to 320 then hit the paper. No way you could polish a entire blade, you would just end up with a streaky mess.

Grind a couple of hundred, you will get better or quit.My first few I believe a 2 year old could have done better.:D
