havent tried them,probably will sooner or later ,,but cant say i like all that rpm even if it is 1725 , do you think these wheels would do the job at say 800 or 400 rpm`s,

Yup, Richard J is the paperwheel guru.

If I had to guess, I'd say stick to the manufacturer's recommended speeds.
 
i would stick with the 1725 rpm motor. going any lower would require a high torque motor.
 
i use my 3000+rpm grinder with my paper wheels and it puts hair wittling edges on dull knifes with just a few passes. I'm not sure how much sharper you can get then that but it seems to work just fine for me. The wax on the grit wheel stops the grit wheel from heating up the metal too much so you shouldnt need to worry that much. it really doesnt take that long to learn how to sharpen on one.
