Pappy,

The BAS arrived safe and sound. I sent an email about getting to MGySgt. before he goes to Vietnam for JTF FA.

ALL,

It has been raining when I've been presenting most of the Khuks and my digital didn't do so well. Some regular pictures were taken this morning of a hard charging PFC, if they come out and I can get transferred I'll figure out how to post them.

General scheme of maneuver is either a Company or Platoon formation. I would sneak in behind the formation while other business is conducted. Then the CO would have them fall out and form a school circle around him. I walk and have the Marine report to. I tell the group about the donations and that these are for field use, not decorations. Then they get to chop a 4X4 in two. EOD OIC is going to attack some cars and see how that works out along with other strange EOD (yes strange and EOD is redundant) stuff.

All the Marines are very grateful and humbled by the donations. They are going to the hard chargers, Sgt. and below, either deploying or on a list to deploy.

SEMPER FI, Mike

Others were given to Marines on their way out the door as individual augments, no time for a formation and "official" presentation.

All have been touched

When I send a khuk away the only thing I ask is that it be used. It may not look too bad but it has been pounded enough that I doubt that it will be unworthy. I thought the 15" knife would be easier to carry in the bush. :)

I have rec’d inquiries and suggestions to let the Marines pick their Khukri from the selection.

Basically those that get one individually, when they deploy on short notice have picked theirs out of the selection.

Those presented in a formation have to chop a 4X4 in half. They later come to my office and are given a chance to exchange the one presented for another one and are then given more detailed care instructions etc. The exchanged ones are polished with either Flitz or Brasso to clean them off and then put back into the pile.

S/F, Mike
