PAPPY HAVE FAITH IN IRISH FAIRIES, LEPRECHAUNS, SANTA CLAUSE & WOOD SPIRITS

:)

I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get Uncle Bill to get me a 12" AK. I don't know why but, I want one of those in the worst way

Ics37 you've made my day, that was a pretty squared away thing to do. Only thing that worries me is that Pappy'll no doubt be out lopping heads off of snakes with that little 12" AK. That's just closer than I care to get to venomous reptiles.

Erin go Bragh!

Sarge

probably will....but after viewing those 20" Cobras for sale I think that model is the ultimate snake stick.

I wonder if Pappy has the HI record for most snakes dispatched by Khukuri?

Too short a handle IMHO. 4 to 6 feet more appropriate in my book. In fact, forget khuks and go with a Lochaber Axe, and English Bill or a Halberd for snakes. In fact I just realized a rationale for 3 1/2" 12 ga. ultra tight chokes with peep sights. 20 yards is good to kill snakes. 30 is better. 40 yards? Worth the effort to try.

I shot at a Southern Pacific (?) rattlesnake from about 50 yards with a Marlin 45/70. He flew up in the air at the third shot so I figured I got him. Southern Pacifics are just Western Rattlesnakes that live closer to the coast. They get bigger, with larger bodies and heads than the Western.

When I got close enough to see I couldn't find a mark on the snake. But he couldn't move. I poked at him with a stick to see what the problem was. His neck was broken. There was a slight bruise, some torn scales and a little blood, but nothing severe. The slug must have hit the dirt beneath him, and broke his neck.

I stood off about twenty feet and finished him. I always remember the enormous chunks of bright meat flying skyward. Southern California grew fat snakes.

Rusty, Pappy once wrote he thought the 18" sirupati was a little too short for snake work.

I usually try to keep the faith all the time but, it would seem that sometimes things jsut build up on a guy and you just run short of somethng. I have been fighting with tricare about paying some of the meds my wife has needed and the readouts I jet are always telling me that the other two or three insurance companies I am supposed to have should pay before tricare.

Mom's kobra extention from her work ran out in 2000 and I haven't been covered since 98. I've called different numbers on the phone and have accomplished just about nothing. Had to pay out of pocket today again.

Munk, The one time I didn't have one of the khuks with me is when I needed it. Day before yesterday. by the time I got to one and got back outside I couldn't find it.:)

Is this thread what you were refering to in your email? I had no idea what you were talking about.
If what is going on here is what it looks like I'll be behold'in to yet another in my life till I figure how to return the favor. Most of the people on this forum just amaze me to the point that I don't know what to say or do.

That's right, pappy, a small package of value is apparently being sent to you by Uncle bill. I like you Pappy. you are square with me and I sense I can be square with you.

You know, I was one of those young fools once upon a time full of himself and uneducated who protested the Vietnam war. I know now that instead of evading the draft- which I threatened to do, despite a lifetime of the staight and narrow- would have been best handled doing work in hospitals for vets who'd given all they could. It took me a little while to grow up, pap. You may not have recognized me in my twenties. Proably why I am so assertive with the young liberals on the forum, I know their talk, I used to speak it. But people grow with age, and it is sad my generation did not. Clinton embarressed us all.

So I don't know why posts about your hanging in there are here. I asked you if something was wrong. Hang in there.
I like you Pappy.

:) Or do I have to get me a big 2 by 4 :D

Use it in good faith, as I know you will.

Most of the time I don't talk too much I don't think unless I've got something to say. Now when I should be saying something I can't find the right words to use at all. I been having a bit of trouble keeping the darn screen in view for the last hour. Seems a shame that a guy has to get old before he really appreciates friends and good deeds. I'm sure the younger fellers appreciate thing too but experiences in life just add something to a mans way of looking at things.

God knows I love this Forum and it's members. I wanat to travel around yet and try to see some of the members before I get so stoved up I can't travel. Sure can go a long ways on the bike for little gas.

Munk, Most of us grow up sooner or later The ones that don't ever grow up usually wind up getting put away somewhere. As far as Clinton goes, I figure any american that ran to Russia when men were dieing in war should have been taken out and shot for treason.

I grew up in Hippieville. What do you expect? Most my old friends won't speak to me any longer.

then you must be especially pleased with Bonier and McDermot (sic)Who spoke out against President Bush while in Bagdad. What has happened to our world when this behavior can be tolerated and probably even re-elected?
I have a theory, that a society that is ill no longer recognizes sociopathy, but rewards it.

My apologies to all offended, but Bill Clinton was a criminal genius the repercussions of which will not be fully understood, if ever, for at least a hundred years. I agree with George Will, the only conservative ABC would permit, ( he is for gun laws) "Clinton was not the worst President we ever had, but he was the worst man ever to have been President.' Some of you on the Left coast will not recall this line, as the LA Times edited it from the opinion section when released.

My Father in Law passed away a few years ago of cancer. During the last years of his life, which he knew was terminal, he had an attitude change. He was finally able to show more of the kindness and warmth to his children then he had been able to previously.
I try to remember this. I try to know each day is worth all we can offer.

Regarding the insurance industry: as many of you know, we had a baby a couple months ago. A few days before the event, I rushed my wife to the hospital as she was having strong contractions. After 10 hours or so, the Doctor sent us home, the contractions were not productive. BlueCross now wants to bill us a 500 penalty for not having a baby. I am not kidding.

If the protestors had lived thru WWII in any capacity they wouldn't have been protestors. One of old Uncle Bill's dead true sayings: Those who remember WWII and those who don't are different.

No, I wasn't there, but raised by those who were. The definition of the world included "the War". There was never any doubt about which one, or whether it was right or not.

I watch the History channel with my young son and try to fill in the holes.

I was five or six when the Cuban missle crisis happened. Today we have the WTC, and already people want to forget and pretend life can go on as before. 'What's the US's problem?" they ask.

I think I know how you feel. Just consider this before you let these people drive you out of your mind. After watching things happen for a good while I have noticed on the TV news in Austin that there are a select group of people that seem to be professional protesters. I don't think they care what the subject is. If some one is going to march they are going to march too. I've watched some of the same people marching toward the state capital in Austin for several different causes. Some folks just like to stir crap.

Uncle Bill is right about WW11. Those that remember and saw some of those gentlemen come back are not the same kind of people that are growing up now. The togetherness that was seen 9/11/01 was a show for some of the folks in this country. Put up the flag and show how patriotic they are and now is doesn't seem to mean squat.

Well, I guess I've probably made some folks a little mad so I better quit now. I don't want to start a war on the forum and if I have offended any one of the forum please forgive me. I try to call it the way I see it. Don't worry Munk, I'm not throwing stones at you either. You know what kind of people I'm refering to.:)

There's a guy around Montana who cuts silohettes (sic) out of black iron. You'll see a cow or horse by the road but it really isn't a cow or horse. Lot's of people 'have to have' one of these profiles. They are very popular. Don't know if anyone is doing that in your neck of the woods or not.

On the way to the big city of 5 thousand people I pass a spread that is well heeled. They aren't hurting for money and could do whatver they like, up to and including gold logs in front of their drive and a sign saying, "Gomorah this a-way". What they have instead next to a grain silo are two of these silohettes. There is an American Flag on a pole. A cowboy is kneeling on the grass beside it with his hat off and in his hand, and his dog is with him.

That says it all. We do the best we can, honor those who've come before, and pray to the Almighty for help.
I don't pass that scene by without the beginning of tears.
munk

hey! Good news! You never saw so many flags in your life unless you drove through an ndn reservation in Montana after 9-11.

I think the Marine Corps had a few Native Americans in almost every company that I have ever been in. Damn good Soldiers. Sure glad they were on my side.

We wouldn't have any trouble in this country If every one would just try to treat people like people and forget the greed. I will try to get along with any man and, have had very little trouble. If some one $hits on me , I get away and stay away. That way there still is no trouble. If whoever come arond me knowing I don't want anything to do with them. Then I have to figure out something else.

That's the thing about this forum, I learn something everyday.

So many amazing people, with amazing histories !!

If you think you've reach the status of expert, you'll quickly run into some very knowlegeable serious students who have world wide respect for their opinions from folks with post doctoral experience for decades.

I try to remind myself I'm an amateur in the old sense - one who does it for love of the subject and the amazing folks who'll help you if you show sincere interest. Look at Mannoucher's interviews and the response he was shown by the "Bura's"
of his country.

John Powell is sought out for his expertise by the British museum curators. But you can politely and respectfully ask a dumb question and get a sincere response without being patronized. He's still an excited little boy with a brand new toy that shares his sense of glee with us when he makes a new addition to his collection and enjoys hearing of our gloating when we make a new purchase.

Enjoy the companionship and helpfulness you'll find here.
