So I told my wife I wanted the 20 year for Christmas. I got it! I have had my fair share of bourbons but you guys talked me into trying this one out. Any suggestions? I personally like most on the rocks and I let the ice melt a few minutes before I start working on it. How do you drink yours?

I just opened a bottle the other day. I guess it would be okay to throw an ice cube in if you want but I drink mine neat....it really doesn't need anything.

I've been told that drinking it straight makes it so you miss a lot of the flavor. A splash of water or some ice brings it out.

Personnel preference.....the same is said for Scotch. Try it both ways and see what suits you. There really is no right or wrong way.....well...I take that back. If you mix that Pappy Van Winkle with coke....we will find you. ;)

Make sure you use good ice. I do like a cube or two in my bourbon or Scotch. But don't use tap water. Distilled water is better. Filtered water at a minimum.

I just opened my PVW 20 a few days ago. I prefer it neat, but I may try a splash of water to see if it opens up. But, I drink all my bourbons neat.

Such a fine bourbon should be pampered.

Pour Pappy in a crystal tumbler over Vermont soapstones. Whiskey stones chill your favorite spirit without diluting its flavor.

there's no *right* way to do it, other than whatever *you* prefer... ;)

I take *all* of my whiskey on a rock or three, almost always made from distilled water.

some, the barrel-strengths, get 3 rocks - others, those around 90proof, get one.

I enjoy both the temperature change and the flavor change caused by the ice/water.

that said, I usually taste a small amount before adding anything to establish a baseline.
