Par 2 vs Military

For me it comes down to which lock and size you prefer. I like the Millie but I find the pm2 size to be a bit easier to carry. I also prefer tip up clip placement when carrying in right front pocket or inside waistband. The Millie works well as a back pocket knife IMO but here in the tropics I rarely find myself in jeans so the the pm2 gets way more carry.

Action on both is great but most of my paramilitaries have been a bit smoother than my millies.

I prefer the para 2 also. Much for the same reasons surfingringo does.

On the military I never cared for the long grip to blade ratio. But I do like the tip down carry.

Is the military worth the extra money? Do they both have the same action?

There isn't much price difference and that could be attributed to the increased size of the Military. As for action- the opening feels about the same but the lock types are different so closing is different. I own both knives and get along fine with either lock type. For my normal EDC use I prefer the PM2, and I use the Military more on weekends.

You didn't ask but externally the knives feel somewhat the same. The weight, height and thickness are not that much different, just a little bit different in length.

I slightly prefer the Millie at work because my coveralls have deep enough pockets that the size doesn't really matter and I prefer the extra length. I also find that the liner lock is slightly easier to operate when wearing gloves, but it's a very close call. My PM2 gets carried almost as much at work as my Millie, and gets carried outside of work a lot more than my Millie does. What is your intended use for the knife?

I like the Millie for work....HVAC so it gets beat up pretty good! Still tight as a drum and smooth as silk!! The s30v holds up VERY well also!!
EDC goes to the PM2. Little easier carry and more fun to play with the comp lock.

They are both great knives. The PM2 is easier to EDC. It also has what I believe to be a stronger lock. The Millie feels better in my large hands and has a longer blade. I have a Millie dropped down in my front pocket now.

To me they really aren't comparable, other than being folding knives. For general use, I like the Para 2's size, but for cold weather or work with gloves, the Military, especially the frame lock versions, are incomparable.

Yes the Military is worth the extra money. As for the action my Para 2 is slightly smoother than my Military.

Now if you are asking which one you should buy FIRST [emoji6]. I say Military.

They make a great pair to switch off carrying. Neither one of mine are going anywhere.

Imho the Military is a lot better with gloves (the larger grip is a bonus as well), but the PM2 carries better and doesn't look quite as intimidating. I also prefer the liner lock on the Millie to the comp lock. A perfect mid sized blade for me would be a PM2 with the lock from the Military.

Thanks all, they are on my list of to buy along with others. So many Spyderco's and never enough $$$$.

Personally I like the Military and the way it fits my hand and I lean towards liner and frame locks.

I have a couple of each. To me, they are too different to compare to each other. Does anyone know why the Military's pocket clip and the lanyard hole are on opposite sides of the knife? I don't get it!

I've owned my military for a few years and my paramilitary 2 for a month. I love big hard user folders, I carry a manix 2 xl as well as a large sebenza 21 in carbon fiber. I have not been able to get the paramilitary 2 out of my pocket since I bought it. The military is super light for us size, the handle will fit any hand and the blade is super capable. It locks up solid as well, but what I didn't like is the tip down only. Not all my knives are tip up, it depends on the size and the knife, but I prefer most tip up. That being said, the military can take a beating. I replaced the back spacer with stand offs which improved the centering, aesthetics and cleaning. Pivot wise it's fluid like a sebenza, smooth and flickable but not gliding on nothing fast. Now the paramilitary 2 has the same blade shape but it's substantially smaller, much easier to direct cuts with because of the length and handle characteristics. The clip is 4 way. If you've ever used an axis lock, the compression lock can be used in the same manner. The blade deploys super quick with no blade play. Overall it feels like a solid knife, while the military feels light weight and long. By solid I mean you can tell the g10 is supported behind itself, both knives are built for use. If I had to choose only one to buy, I'd buy the paramilitary. I don't do redundant knives (say for instance a manix 2 in black, blue, light weight, etc.) But I've been contemplating buying variations. I can honestly say I found my perfect edc after 18 years of trying different knives. Imagine all the money I could have saved lol. I want a black on black like my military. If the military comes out with a tip up pocket clip, I'm all in though. They're both slicing masterpieces.

My preference is Military hands down.

The biggest factor for me is the difference in shape between the two knives. At first glance the PM2 looks like a scaled down version of the Military, but once you hold it in hand it becomes clear they are very different. The PM2 has a straighter shape, whereas the Military is more curved. This results in a more negative blade angle for the Military in hand, which makes cuts easier.
