Para 1 concerns.

So, I just got my Para 1 in the mail. I got it used from a member on here. The first thing I notice when I opened the package is that the pivot screw is all buggered up. Almost as if someone tried using the wrong size torq on it. Second thing I noticed, it looks like it doesn't have any washers between the blade and half liners. Thirdly, the lock is a bit sticky when disengaging.

This is my first Para so bear with me on this. A few questions I have are:

1. Can I get a new pivot screw from Spyderco or would I have to send it in?
2. Is my Para supposed to have PB washers or are they in there and just can't see them
3. Is the sticky lock common? I've tried graphite on the lock face with little to no avail.

Sorry, no pictures at this time, I'm literally typing this as I walk out the door to go to work.

1. Yes you can call Spyderco they have great customer service is giving out little pieces (screws and such) they will mail them to you.
2. you should see the PB washers in there I have the camo version and they are easily identified
3. once you get a new pivot screw, and can take it apart. clean it very good.

what I did with a different knife was i spun the head of my torx and had to use a small flathead screwdriver that fit perfectly to grab the edge. if you make one, make sure to angle it just a little bit so when you apply pressure it will dig in better. I hope this helps you out a little

Thanks a lot!

Another question I have is about a coppery looking film over the tang on the blade. The residue also is in the Spyder hole. Kinda looks like rust, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. Has any one else seen something to this effect. Pictures to follow once I find my camera.

Not likely to be corrosion unless you have the CPM-D2 version. S30V is pretty hard to get "rust" on. :)

Here's the buggered pivot

It's harder to see in the pictures, but easily seen in person.

hard to see in the pics but looks maybe like heat treat spots they didn't polish up at least what it looks like where it locks up could be part of the sticking problem

the pivot screw doesnt look to bad either, try the flathead trick. if its real bad use a crappy flathead and some JB weld and try it a day later. at least call cs about the screw once you get it, then try it. if you have a cordless drill you can get an easy out set from home depot

Getting the screw out shouldn't be a problem. I have easy outs in various flavors so, I've got those bases covered.

I'll definitely call CS tomorrow to see if they can hook me up with a new pivot.

Yea, just replace that pivot screw and you're GTG. Enjoy that folder. The Para is one of the best.

Another quick question, would it be a bad idea to polish the lock face? I'm not talking about removing ANY metal, just some polish and a soft cloth. I hope to achieve a smoother disengagement.
