I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to steel, but I can tell you that it's a non-stainless steel. So it's in the same "group" as m4, at least when it comes to corrosion resistance

None of those. It is a basic carbon steel. Those steels are all wear resistant steels containing vanadium and other elements. Spyderco's Super Blue will be closer to 52100 than any of those steels you listed. Steels like O1 and 1095 are also basic carbon steels.

It's a ball bearing steel. It is very stable on small points of contact, and the theory is it will be a good knife steel where edge stability with minimal geometry at the apex is desired. Usually only seen in larger fixed blades, those properties are not as common in a folder. For me, I prefer more edge stability as I tend to dull an edge this way rather than by pure wearing.

It appears that the serrated PM2 is due Fall 2017. I won't be getting that one; will buy 2 of the plain edge.

May really spoil any sort of big official announcements that Spyderco may have in mind...

But, wow, definitely didn't see a serrated ball bearing steel knife coming, especially as a PM2!

This i like. Weirdly i like bigger blades normally, but i prefer the para over the military. The blade length to handle ratio is better and works for me on the para. I see the military version still available, but im passing for this para, if it happens.
