Fresh out of the box it has very minor blade play (side to side only). Pivot and handle screws are all tight. It's not much at all, but it still bothers me. Also the blade came with a small knick in the corner of the spine, very small and not a huge deal but still bothers me on a $100 knife.

Should I just live with it and use it or should I get with spyderco and send it in?

Other than that, I can see this model quickly becoming one of my fav knives.

hmm mine had no blade play out of the box. It was perfect. When i disassembled it to clean the factory grease and reassembled my pm2, it developed some slight blade play. However, I expect it and can live with it.

Tried to get some pics of the spine

I contacted the eBay seller. It was listed as NIB and unused/unopened. It arrived in tip up configuration, which from pictures looks like this knife ships in tip down config. You can also see where the clip was attached to the tip down portion of the handle. I'm also wondering if the seller is the one who knicked the blade. I sent him a message about it, but is this something Spyderco could/would make good for me if the seller does not make things right? Do you guys think I'm entitled to a partial refund by the eBay seller? I paid $100+ shipping for this knife, here is the link to the ad (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190558953546&ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:1123).

Sellers words in his ad "Comes New in Original Box with paperwork, never used carried or sharpened."

New means new. Undamaged means undamaged. If it has been used then the seller should make good. It's not Spyderco's problem. The seller should refund your $$ including all shipping. If he won't cooperate, use ebay sellers protection: http://pages.ebay.com/coverage/index.html. Just be steady, firm, and polite.

I agree with moxie. If it bothers you at all you should return it to the seller for a refund. The item is clearly not as it was described.

I just hate to get rid of this knife. Other than those problems the design is AWESOME! I'll see what the seller says (already sent him a message regarding it). But since I feel like I could be potential sending it back, now I feel like I can't carry the knife which sucks.

I would try and get refund if the knick in blade really bothers you. You can get a NIB one from dealers for the same price or better. But you could always buy another one it might have some side play as well. If it was my user I think I would just keep it.

Sellers reply

"The knife was never used at all. The clip was moved to the tip up position (as pictured in the ad), but the knife was never even carried in my pocket. I did not notice any blade play when I opened it, and surely did not notice any knick anywhere. The knife is new, and was stored in the box until it was sold."

I find it kind of funny he would go through the trouble of moving the clip, but he didnt carry it? Rightttt.

Why are you still contemplating this issue? If the knife is not to your liking send it back and get a refund. Buy from a reputable buyer, preferably one that has positive feedback in the Exchange area here. They make lots of those, it isn't like it's a sprint or anything. Trifling with this is a waste of time.

Are there any reputable dealers that have it for around $100 and have it in stock? I was having a hard time finding one.

If you don't like it you have 7 days to get your money back. "7 days after the buyer receives it money back, buyer pays return shipping"

And yes, Howes has them, free shipping too.

Sorry to hijack your thread but that Benchmade Rift looks awesome! Holy crap I've seen pictures of it before of websites selling them, but I've never seen it side by side with a Spyderco. OK you can have your thread back now. :)

i am a avid seller on ebay.. u can get all your money back u will have to send the knife back and you can buy is somewhere else.. its so wrong to sell something thats not new.. even if the seller doesnt wanna give you money back you can take it to ebay or paypal and they will force him too. they are very good at making things right..

Physically, I don't have any reason to believe this knife wasn't brand new, or at least in LNIB condition. Other than the clip being moved and that small knick, the knife wasn't even dirty. I've talked with the seller, and he said I could send it back for a refund. But after messing with it all day, I don't think I can let it go. Haha I know that sounds sad, but this thing is badass. The blade play has almost disappeared completely after I messed with the screws a bit more and have flipped it open and closed a lot. That basically leaves the only thing wrong at the knick in the blade. I think it might be worth it just to get over it rather than being without the knife for awhile. I'm sure I'll scratch it or get it dirty soon enough, and I voiced my concerns with the seller.

But for my next PM2, I'll definitely be sure to buy from a better source.

Mine came with a flaw on the spine so its possible it was that way from the factory. The clip was moved so that should have been stated. If its going to be used I wouldn't worry about it and spend more money shipping it back. Maybe you will decide to modify one of your knives and round the spine. I'm thinking about doing it to my Sprint para because I think it would look good. And to be fair you have adjusted the screws which if you were going to return it you shouldn't have messed with the knife either. At least it already has a flaw so you won't be afraid to use it and put that first scratch on it.
