Para 2 Blade Play

My Para 2 has a little (and I mean little) bit of blade play. I heard somewhere that it was because of the new bushing system. Should I tighten down the pivot screw and then see if it doesn't have any blade play anymore? Thanks

tightening down the pivot shouldnt do anything, if the bushing system is working correctly.

Ok now its good. Have any of your guy's Para 2's come with blade play?

the whole point of the bushing system is that you can tighten the pivot as far as it can go but still retain smoothness. the same mechanism is used the CRK sebenza.

Err... the bushing is there to make sure that the blade still move regardless of the screw tightness. If the pivot screw is too loose, it won't magically keep the blade from having side to side play.

And that's not at all what the OP was asking.

yes the bushing is there to keep consistent smoothness. but assuming the knife is put together correctly there shouldnt be any play. if the OP had loosened the screw to the point of it almost coming out then there would be play.

What?

The bushing system has absolutely no bearing on what happened here. The pivot screw was too loose. It happens with all knife companies at times.

What are you talking about?

i'm confused now too. I think we need some diagrams. Is the "bushing system" on the para 2 different than other knives? If I have side to side blade play on my knives I tighten the pivot and the play goes away. Why will that not happen with the para2?

I had side to side play on my para 2 and i tightened the pivot now it is gone.

I think people were just misunderstanding each other's questions. Basically the pivot bushings lets you tighten the pivot screw as hard as you can and it will maintain the same smooth opening action. Knives that dont have pivot bushings (the majority) when you tighten those pivots down all the way you get a knife that is impossible to open/close. The OP apparently got the knife with a pivot screw that wasn't tightened all the way down and was loose enough that there was a bit of play. He fixed it once he tightened his pivot all the way down. Problem solved nothing else to see here :foot: :).

the bushing prevents, in theory, the scales from pinching the blade when the pivot screw is too tight.

it rests between the scales, around the pivot, and provides a consistent space between the scales. think of it as a stand-off at the pivot area.

when the pivot screw on a sebenza is loose, it is possible to develop lateral blade movement. not as much as on other folders since there is another attachment point at the stop pin, but it is there nonetheless.

Sorry, the reason I was wondering what the question was for was I thought that perhaps you were talking about vertical blade play, not horizontal.

That... probably didn't come out right.

mine has some left/right blade play but only if i hold the blade near the tip and give it a good wiggle. holding it closer to the pivot there's none so it might just be flex. nothing that concerns me at all

I can find blade play on every single folder I own if I give it a good wiggle from the tip of the blade with the Sebenza as the only exception. Even in my Sage 2 there is microscopic play if I wiggle it from the tip. So yeah I agree nothing to worry about at all.
