Para 2 Clip

Love my Para 2.
But I wish it had a black clip.
I was wondering if it's possible to force a patina on it to darken it up.
I'm sure it'll be difficult as it's SS; just wondering if anybody's tried it yet.
Maybe I'll just put it in a cup of lemon juice over night.
Conversely, does Spyderco make a black clip for it?
Thanks all.
Lenny

Yes, the Para 2 appears to share the same clip that's used on a bunch of other models, including the Enudra 4, Delica 4. Stretch 2, and Manix 2. Black versions are available, although some might have the hole in them that allows use on handles where the clip would otherwise cover the lanyard hole or interfere with the pivot screw. You could call Spyderco and order the one used on the black bladed Manix 2, that one is black and has no hole.

Thanks, Paul.

I wonder why the black versions wouldn't be otherwise the same as the silver.

Call the factory store. Numbers on there website u will be able to get one for like five bucks

Talk to STR and have him fabricate you a low-rider clip for your Para2. He did a great job on mine and it rides down almost out of sight in my pocket. They are titanium and he can finish them in several different colors.

check around for the formula mixing nitric with hydrochloric acids---may be able to get some from school lab. will turn stainless to black. another trick is use the sharpie ocassionally.--dennis

Here's my quick solution. It's a stripped Endura 4 clip.

I may try to get a hold of a Gayle Bradley clip. I really think that'd look awesome on a Para 2.

i'd love to see the para 2 with a wire clip

Why? While I love the wire on gent's knives like the D'fly and Sage it's the last thing I want on a hard use knife. The clip on the Para 1's are Marine Corps issue worthy!

i don't rappel from my knife clip so i guess i don't use it that hard, lol. i'm not sure how hard use a clip needs to be? i like the clean lines and low ride of the wire clip. the super leaf has one and Sal himself calls that a hard-use knife

I must confess I totally prefer the satin finished clips. Although they are a lot more bling than the coated ones, they are also far hardier and don't develop ugly chipping on the high points like the black clips do. As any knife nut knows, the clip picks up more dings than any other part of the knife!

However, I understand why some would prefer black so its great that Spyderco does sell alternative coated clips after the fact.

Assuming they do of course. :D

Even just aesthetically a wire clip would completely clash with the Para 2 design IMO. It is better for smaller, more gentlemanly knives like the Caly 3/3.5 and Sage. It also it's as strong when it comes to withstanding side-to-side torque, and it would make it impossible to have 4 way clip positioning because of the way it's mounted, it's only suited for tip up. I think it's nice to have variety, I'd hate to have a wire clip on every or even most models (and I love the wire clip for the knives it's on). A knife needs a clip that fits its overall look, feel, and use.

that's why variety is good. for me, the wire clip would work great on the para 2. i loathe the first gen clip, way too high rider

Well, apparently Spyderco uses a black version of the Para 2 clip in several of their knives.
I ordered one the other day directly thru Spyderco.
It was only like $7 or so.
Just thought you'd all like to know.

Watch out though--if it is really the Manix2 clip the black screws use the T4 torx, and are too long for tip down carry. Lucky for me, I tend to prefer tip up carry!

Some signs seem to indicate that the black bladed Para 2 is already out. If that's the case then there's a good chance it would use a black clip and, if so, everything should work fine.

I'm a tip up carry person also.
But even if I weren't, there's always the Dremel with a cut off wheel, or just use the silver screws.
Geez, I wonder if I can replace all the silver screws with black ones?

I had to go oooohhh when i saw that. I don't know why but the black para 2 just appeals to me. It's a shame they didn't black out the rest of the hardware aside from the clip. Black liners and black screws would have been fantastic.
