Para 2 Mania

Due to either production limitations, or brilliant marketing.
Many of us have been chasing the elusive Para 2
If they were available everywhere, would you stop wanting them?
I would likely have two or three of each.:D

I'd still love to have one. That said, the PM2 has dropped on my priority list with all the cool limited run stuff lately - Mules, Superblue goodness, etc...

I've noticed a lot of them for sale on the sales forum in the past few weeks. I managed to buy a used digicam model a few months ago and gave it some red dye.

I haven't noticed any sprints for sale except for the green ones.

I have been looking for the blue M390 for a long time with no luck. I need a few others to get a complete set.

Now that's what I'm talking about!

Nice collection!

I missed out on a blue M390 the other day.:grumpy:

I only have 2, and it's in my top 3 with the Schempp Tuff and Chokwe (With the Techno a very close runner up).

I have 1x S30V and 1x S35VN.
Wish I had an XHP, M390, 204P and S90V version, but they're just too expensive on the 2nd hand market. Living in the antipodes doesn't help.

I live in hope that an S110V production Para 2 becomes available, like they have done with the lightweight Manix.
Pretty please??

I don't think it's production limits or marketing, I think it's that you're hard pressed to find a comparable design for the money. The PM2 is an absolute steal, so they stay in demand. I do think the allure of the sprint runs adds to the mania, though.

I agree with this. The PM2 is one of the best values out there.

Nope I'd buy more, it's an amazing knife, it's really too bad they haven't started bringing some of the premium steel editions into regular production as it appears some other companies are starting to do (BM 940-1, ZT 562CF, 620CF, etc). The secondary market prices are ridiculous on the sprint/limited edition PM2's. It speaks to their popularity but sadly it creates a lot of people and no doubt some dealers pre-ordering/buying them all up with the motivation only to resell for prices way over MSRP. Just look at the same sellers with sprint PM2 or mule after mule for auction on Ebay. I just won't support those practices, it's really kind of soured me on the whole sprint/limited edition knives, and not just from Spyderco.

I'd say the same for the Mule series, while the concept was a risk and amazing at the time, and kudos for Spyderco to go out on a limb but I think that model has proven by how fast they are bought up and put on the secondary market at 200+% markup that the market would easily support a much larger regular supply even at full MSRP.

I don't have a good solution for it aside to increase production numbers to catch up to the demand curve.

I had quite a few PM2's and mostly singles. I have only one left but if I did get doubles it would be based on one specific one I liked the best, scale color and steel wise. I would also base it on how hard it is to get or find.

I've become disillusioned with the whole PM2 sprint frenzy.
Knives selling out within MINUTES of being posted for sale??
9 month or longer pre-orders?

Yall have fun with that.
I'm gonna spend my time and effort on other knives.

But I totally get the whole "gotta catch'em all!" appeal of collecting sprint runs, it's just not for me.

It should ease up somewhat once Spyderco finishes expanding their Golden facility and can ramp their production some.

i have 2, the one that's been in my pocket as my edc for about 4 years and a back-up. love this knife (:

Para 2 is a great knife. I've owned 2 standard S30V ones, a grey in 20CP, and a Blue M390. I've gotten rid of all 4 though. Very well built and feels good, but just not the be all end all for me.
