Para 2 Not Totally Smooth

Let me start off by saying that I really like my Para 2, however, it seems like it is not totally smooth when opening and closing it slowly. It almost feels like there is a small amount of grit or something in it. Will this go away after breaking it in, or should I run it under some hot water and dish soap? It's not horrible, I'm just a little bit anal about how my things are. :)

While I'm posting, can I use mineral oil to lube it?

You might as well try cleaning and oiling it. It's not like you could break it doing that. Plus, grit accelerates wear.

It will get smoother over time, though.

Just got me a new one and it's totally smooth. Might be where you got it from.

Mineral oil should be fine, but give the knife time to smooth out. Remember that the detent runs over the blade and it still has to wear its path out/smooth its path out. It is minor things but it holds true for so many knives. I believe that is the only real thing you experiencing because you have to open it slowly to feel it.

IDK about the rest of you guys but if I hold the compression lock down, the blade will easily swing open and closed with little to no resistance.

One of mine is like that...and my camo para is alittle tighter. But I'm sure...with time it will free up. Both are new,not even been opened and closed 20 times.

The Para2, more than most knives, is very sensitive to the tightness of the pivot and lockbar screws. I recommend getting a torx driver and playing around with the pivot. Just tiny adjustments (1/8th of a turn) will cause the blade to open and close differently. Some folks like them looser so they swing free when opening and closing. Other folks like them tighter so there is less blade play.

Experiment a little and see what feels good to you.

I think Ted means the stop pin screws...if not, add them to the list. ;)

My Para 2 was like that also. After playing around with the pivot and cleaning it I still did not get the result I wanted but when holding down the lock it was smooth like glass I know something was wrong.
After searching around I found that some ppl had problems like this do to the lock being to strong, so i disassembled it and carefully bent the lock in the other direction. It 100% fixed it.

You could try loosing the pivot screws to open it up some and flush the pivot with an oil or WD-40.

It's easy to get obsessed with hitting the sweet spot on the Para 2, but mine smoothed out over time with both the pivot and the lock.

Eh, sometimes I think it could just be tolerance stacking here and there.

My M390 sprint, with pivot and stop pin screws fully tight, is smooth through the whole range and tight ( zero blade play).

My S35VN and XHP sprints, the pivot and stop pin screws tight enough to not bind the action, aren't as smooth through the entire range. My assumption is that that bushings will wear in over time. I've already had to go back and tighten down the pivot on the XHP a bit after ~3 weeks of use.

My plain new s30v para 2 has the same thing, i hold the lock down it is smooth, but when i open it without it, there is some friction from it.

By the way is it normal for a new Para2 to have a sticky lock?

Ive been having this grittiness in my para2 and cleaned it and polished the detent. It is still gritty.

I think i have to do just this, my lock is VERY strong! I can barely open it and my finger almost hurts when i push the lock down to close it!
