I was at my local knife shop today and they had a Para2 that had a "tumbled" (as they called it) finish to the blades and all other metal parts on the knife. I can't seem to find any info on these.

Did this come from Spyderco like this, or is this something done after it left the factory?

The counter guy had no idea and I forgot to write down the numbers on the box. It was new though.

You might mean "stonewashed" finish. I am not aware that Spyderco made these but other people on the forum have done this modification to theirs.

So, it's something that wouldn't have came from the factory already done?

I know the store and the knife you speak of. The knife is indeed new but the stonewash (tumbled) and parts are not from the factory. That is the local store jdavis used to frequent before he moved to Atlanta. I was told by one of the employees that they had him do the stonewashing just to make it a little different. They also have another guy that does some custom anodizing of titanium knives. Just gives people some variety. I wouldn't think that the knives would still have factory warranty but I bet the store would honor the sale if you ever have any issues. They are really great folks and have an awesome knife selection.

I wonder how they came to have a knife like that for sale as new in box merchandise.

It's not advertised as new in box.... The guy that didn't know anything about it is a new guy, named Johnny. Randy (the main knife guy) knows every piece that is altered, and lists them as such. They normally have a card taped to the box that lists who did the work, and what work was done.

It was Marks. I don't go in there often so I don't know one guy from the next. The guy helping me didn't seem to know much about them at all, which is why I'm asking here. I knew they had some altered knives, they have a ZT 0560 done up real nice by someone. The knife looked good, I just didn't know if it was factory or not. All the metal parts were "tumbled", not just the blade. I'll have to drop in there and check it out again.....if it's still there.

You were at marks? It was a black paramilitary 2 with stonewashed blade?

That's a blade I've done. :)

I didn't read all this post. So you did the knife. Cool!! Did you do the other parts too or was it just my imagination that all the other metal parts were done? I may have to be adding that one to my PM2 collection :-)

It was probably Johnny then, he is a super nice guy but he still has a lot to learn about blades. Randy on the other hand, is actually pretty knowledgeable about everything they have, and that's saying a lot considering how massive there inventory is. Oh and that ZT 0560 you mentioned was nasty, in a good way!

I don't think there was a card on the Para2 but Randy did disclose to me that it had some custom work done. Have you found any shops in Atlanta with comparable inventories like Mark's?

One of my buddies on YouTube just bought one from Mark's Outdoors, I'm guessing that where you saw it because of your location.

Yeah. I went in to get it today and just missed it :-(

You can buy a regular para 2 and stonewash it yourself. It's not really hard at all. After seeing that knife in Mark's I went on youtube and found a couple vids on how to do it. It's only a few bucks worth of materials and super easy. I have done a couple of my knives and they turned out great. Let me know if you have any questions and I'd be happy to help.

Here is a pic of my Para 2 that I stonewashed.
