An online dealer that has a backorder on Spyderco Para 2 is accepting new orders but has no idea about the wait time to fulfill the order. I'm able to wait until May for an occasion.

Is the Para 2 worth the wait? Is it really that good? Because other options are the Spyderco Caly 3.5 CF or the Benchmade Onslaught. I'm open to other suggestions around 140 dollars. It must have a thumb hole though, no exceptions! :)

I vote for order the PM2, if it hasn't shown up and time is getting close, cancel the oder and pickup something else. As far as other options, what about the regular Military? It can be had for under $140. Or maybe the Manix 2 XL or a Superleaf?

Edit: Beaten to the punch on the Military

The 2 folders I really want right now are the para 2 and the 950 rift. The rift seems really different from the para so I'm not sure if this helps you. You might look and see if you can still find a spyderco superleaf. Opening hole, leaf shaped FFG blade, and compression lock. I've seen prices from 110-120 recently. Personally, rather than get a para 2 substitute I'm just going to get a para 2. After playing with one I came to the conclusion that the para 2 was a package of features I liked and getting another knife for one of those features (FFG, compression lock, blade shape, handle shape) wouldn't cut it for me. What is it you like about the para 2? If it's just the compression lock you have other choices.

I would definetely suggest the Manix 2 or Manix 2 XL. I have the Manix 2 and it's fantastic plus they come in S30V now which is the same as the para2.

It's a good knife, absolutely. As far as the wait time involved, it's due to the production schedule. It happens with Emerson knives too. You look and see everything out of stock aside from opne or two models. The factory completes the run, and they move onto the next model for a few hundred pieces or whatever.

If the knife is sold out, and there is a waiting list, that should tell you a lot about the knife.

Adding more to the collection that I don't have, value, reviews, seems a solid knife that people cherish.

I have a few Manix models including the XL. The Manix will be very hard to beat, I'm figuring the Para 2 will come close.
