Sorry if this has been answered before, I've been absent from BF..

With the release of the Para 3, will the Para 2 be discontinued?

Short answer is a definite "no"... I think pigs will fly before Spyderco discontinues the para 2 anytime soon.

Haven't heard a peep about that Shooter! And I seriously doubt one of they're best sellers will be discoed.
Fear not!!

The para is pretty much the go to when it comes to spyderco. Im not sure they could afford to discontinue something that popular.

The Para 3 is not a replacement for the Para 2. Unlike the Para 2 which WAS a replacement for the Para 1. Originally they were't going to name the knife Para3 to avoid this confusion. I think they were originally going to call it the Minuteman.

This was supposed to represent the sizes of the knife Military>Paramilitary>Minuteman.

The para 3 is definitely not a replacement marketing thing, like an upgraded model. With the 3" blade it broadens the marketability of the para series for gents like myself that are "encouraged" to carry 3" or under knives by certain laws, city ordinances in my case so traveling with a larger knife can be questionable as the state law is pretty relaxed but the cities in the metro area are pretty widespread in what they allow so you have to plan for the tightest law you'll be working in.

I would be more worried about the sage 5 going away from the para 3 than the para 2 going away, if you're a sage knife lover.

Only if they want to film a docuseries called "The Walking Pissed" in Golden after hoards of disgruntled Spyderco customers descend upon their headquarters.

Well that's a relief, thanks Gents. I was about to stick my standard Para 2 and M4 Para 2 in its box and start thinking about retirement LOL

The para 3 is called that because its in the same family but not actually the paramilitary 3.
