I reconfenscated my para 3 from my wife.
She only wears it once a week, I'm digging it.
I'm considering buying the g10 version incase she finds out and wants it back.

How do they compare ? It's only a 1/2 ounce weight difference.
Which do you prefer if you like this knife?

I personally prefer the G10 over the Lightweight models. No real reason other than I prefer the feel of the G10 over the FRN. They are both great it's just a personal preference as I am really fond of my original PM with D2.

Honestly the real draw to the Ligtweight for me is the steel choices in the blade. More options in that regard.

I've been eyeing the blacked out s45.
Lw seems to be s45 or bd1n is there another steel I'm missing ?

I've owned several G10 versions and several LW versions, and for some reason I greatly prefer the latter. The LW version is lighter, has a better clip, and overall just feels less bulky in the pocket and hand to me, for some reason.

I'd vote for the G10 + S45VN too. Personally, I don't like blacked out blades but that is a personal decision.

You can still find blue FRN + Spy27 (gp knives for example).

All the other combos I saw, mint green + M4, white + Rex 45, teal + S90V seem to be out. I might have missed some tho too.

Lightweight for carry and fidget play, G10 for use beyond a few minutes

M390 is essentially the same or at least very similar to 20CV that is my current favorite steel so I wish I got in on that Para 3 model. Of the various sprint runs that is the only one I would pay extra for really.

For me personally, I didn't like FRN the first time I handled it, probably decades ago, and I still don't like the "plastic-y" feel. Having said that, Spyderco's FRN pattern is certainly well thought out, and very grippy in multiple directions. If the plastic-y thing doesn't bother you, you can save a little weight and money.

Spyderco's G10 is super grippy, maybe a bit too much so, as it tears up your pocket, but you can remedy that with some judicious smoothing of the area immediately under the pocket clip where it makes contact. I prefer Micarta to G10... both are man-made, but Micarta feels more organic becaue the underlying fibers in the resin matrix are either canvas, paper, linen, or other things (e.g. denim). G10 is reinforced with Fiberglass, and it has a certain feel that is more aggressive.

Benchmade's Grivory strikes me the same was as FRN... plastic-y in a cheap, flexy feeling way.

YRMV.

I'm sitting on the fence.. almost got it.
I have 14 other spyders, feel a bit ridiculous.
Then there's the crucarta coming but... I like the Para 3 better than the Para 2.

Should I get one or wait for the magnacut sprint runs ?
Decisions are tough sometimes.

I got the s45 g10...
I don't know why I wait so long and research.
If I'm wanting it I will get it.

Thank you for the advice guys

Nice choice. I may be in the minority, but I like my knives to feel like they have some substance. I got a lightweight Para 3 in M390 and never warmed up to it. The FRN scales made it feel too much like a toy to me. But then I'm also the guy who will switch out the G10 scales for custom titanium if I can get them.

I have a G10 Para 3 bought in 2018 and like it a lot. I can't honestly say I prefer it over the LWT version, because I've never handled the latter. But I have zero interest in the Para 3 LWT.

And yes, I do know that FRN is durable, at least as durable as G10. I own more Spyderco knives in FRN than in any other handle material. But I really like (love?) the G10 Para 3, but personally don't care about the LWT version.

If not for the blade going off center fast, I would prefer the LW version : light, grippy, deep carry, and with the same blade as the G10 one.
