Out of curiosity, how was the knife positioned in your pocket when it opened? I ask because tip-up, with the blade against the seam of the pocket, generally reduces the likelihood that a blade will open by accident (compared to relying on the detent alone with tip-down carry).Had to change from tip up to tip down carry.
Yeah it's all good. It was tip up with spine against my pants seem. Not even sure how it happened. Glad you're okay!![]()
That's exactly what I was going to ask. I have had the same thing happen with a Para3 (I had it hair-whittling sharp) and nicked myself. The only thing I could figure was that it wasn't all the way back against the back of my pocket. I haven't had the problem since that one time, but I always push it against the seam now.I ask because tip-up, with the blade against the seam of the pocket, generally reduces the likelihood that a blade will open by accident
Wish you'd posted this earlier; I bet none of us have thought of that previously. How about you try closing your knife before you put it back into your pocket.
The pivot is as tight as I can get it. Only knife I own that can be cranked down tight and not seize up really. And yes my Spydie was fully closed when I clipped it inside my pocket. I can't say I've ever placed an open folding knife in my pocket in the more than 30 years of carrying a folding knife but thanks for the advice anyway.I dunno what you guys are doing but I had one knife ever open up in pocket and it was a cheap pos auto flipper about 20 years ago. How about you try closing your knife before you put it back into your pocket. Keep your knife in your knife pocket not a knife, keys, pens or whatever else. Somebody's gunna lose a nut one of these days. I sure as s%#t don't carry auto flippers no more and if your spydie is opening then how loose is the pivot? Because somethings wrong
You know what? This makes it sound as though a bit of your pants perhaps caught the tip and some point and partially deployed the blade.Yeah it's all good. It was tip up with spine against my pants seem. Not even sure how it happened. Opened just enough for the tip... just the tip... poked through the fabric. No harm except a hole in the pants.
If you keep it tip up with the blade facing towards your front while it's closed, it kind of uses the back part of the pocket to hold in place. As long as you have it far enough back in your pockets, you shouldn't ever be getting near it enough to even graze the blade, even if you're putting keys in or taking your phone out or whatever. So never had this happen with anything but a Kershaw Leek. Anyone else have this happen? Had to change from tip up to tip down carry. Lucky it only caused a hole in my pocket as this is the sharpest blade I've ever had really.
Yep, one reason why locks with closed bias such as the backlock, axis/ball lock, triad/scorpian lock, etc, can be preferableIt certainly happens. I prefer a strong detent on folders in my pocket.
I occasionally spend time on the ground, or climbing up and down, laying on my back, stomach, or sides, etc. A physical lifestyle and work can, and does, sometimes cause my pocket knife to open. Some models are more prone than others.
