Decided to get a Para 3 for EDC. Options are S30V, S110V and Maxamet.

Any recommendations? My Para-2 in S30V has been great, but now there are additional options that I didn’t have when I bought that one years ago.

Thanks in advance.

If you don't have Maxamet and like patina, go for it. I have a P3 in Maxamet and I will never sell it. If you want corrosion resistance, S110V. S30V is also a great steel, but I think the build quality on the G10 Maxamet model is extra special.

What does the patina look like?

The Sage is still new in the picture.

I also have a para 3 in maxamet I can say I love it so far. One you didnt list that spyderco also does a good job with is Cruwear.

I don’t see a Cruwear Para 3 being made. There are some discontinued exclusives in Cruwear for silly prices being flipped on eBay, but no interest in that sort of nonsense. The Maxamet looks good and doesn’t cost a ton more than the S30V.

Just a consideration that you did not mention. Rex 45 is close to Cruwear. It's actually the only Para 3 I have and I love it. I don't know what they go for on the aftermarket, but if you can find one, they might be more available and less expensive than a Cruwear Para 3. Again, that's if you would even entertain Cruwear or Rex 45.

Can I ask why S30V instead of the standard steel of S45VN they are making them in now?

My para 3 and para 3 lw are both in M390, my favorite steel, but both DLT exclusives and not available right now

Because I’m looking at what’s available on Amazon, where I have about $200 in free points to use. The only options are S30V, S110V and Maxamet.

How good are your sharpening skills?
S110V can be tough to sharpen...
(Mine has SPY27 under the hood, and it's been great!)

With that said... Maxamet, all the way!
Depending on your uses????

For me... from cutting cardboard, construction worker, and hobbyist "mechanic"... S110 isn't for me.. found it to be chippy.. Like, hit a staple in cardboard and it'll chip. Cut a ziptie of a car and hit metal, and best of luck to ya..
Maxamet just laughs at that stuff and keeps shaving..

If I had $200 to use up I would probably try Maxamet, but read about it first. I believe it can be a challenge to sharpen.

I actually went with the S45VN (not from Amazon). I read up on Maxamet, but got spooked by the low toughness ratings. One page ranked it last among around 20 steels. I can’t stand chips.

I’m sure the S45 will be a marvelous all-purpose EDC steel. Had no complaints whatsoever from my S30V Para2 in ten years (except it’s too big for pocket carry).

I have also been very happy with my PM2 for that long, and I'm sure you will love the S45 Para3.

Out of those options I’d probably go with S110V. Maxamet is pretty damn good from what I hear but I’ve also heard it can be pretty chippy. If you do decide to go the S110V route I have a blurple one with a lynch clip I’d sell you for a nice deal.
