Hi i was replacing my PSK when I found out that there was a question which i ask myself. Each of us would have at least a para cord in it but how many para cord should you put in it as there might not have enough length or number of para cord as it is use to do alot of things like setting up a tarp etc etc... And would you cut the single para cord in it in case you need different length of it to work with it?
To make it simple:
1)What is the min length of para cord do you have in your PSK?
2)What is the min number of para cord do you have in your PSK?
3)If you only have one para cord would you cut it only in the wcs?

I guess I carry about 50' in total. Some is tied to loops on my pack other pieces are stuffed inside. I also carry about 50' of strong cotton string tied into a very tight and compact bundle. In addition there is some jute twine.

I routinely carry 50 ft of 550 -- and 300 ft. of nylon mason's cord (apx 1.2 mm) -- and 100 ft. of nylon dental floss. The lighter stuff is for lashing together things (or sewing, in the case of the floss). The 550 is for holding up the silnylon tarp and other more heavyduty tasks.

I carry 20' of 7 strand shroud line, but also carry 200' of natural 4x jute twine. In my rucks I carry 50' of 7 strand and 400' of jute twine.

For outdoor activities I tell my Scouts to carry six 16 foot lengths of paracord. There are several reasons:

-A 100' hank of cord can easily be cut into six 16.67 foot lengths.
-A 16' length is very managable - easy to remove tangles.
-Six lengths of cord are good for pitching a tarp - 4 corners plus 2 ends of the ridgeline.
-A 16' length is perfect for use as storm guys on a tent (used to make the tent more sturdy in high wind conditions). Actually for this use it is best to have eight lengths of cord rather than six lengths (two lines on each of the four sides).

We also recommend that each patrol (a group of about 8 boys who camp together) carries at least one (preferably 2) 50 foot length of heavier 3/8" nylon cord for hanging food bags in trees.

I think I have about 20 Feet in my Kit at this time. I will say the more you have the better, 550 can be used for so much stuff. I also stash it around all my Army Gear so I always have a Hank at hand.

carry a 30' chunk of 550' in the bottom of my fatboy. don't notice the little space it takes up. Have another chunk at home, usually use it to replace bootlaces every couple weeks(I wear my boots as tight as I can get em and wear through a couple spots on the cord). at pretty much a buck for 10', it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying laces.

thanks for the reply i myself carry around 6 paracords of different length in my bags and another 4 around me. i also place 2 paracords in my PSK both around 10ft long

i really have to feel like the villiage idiot here, but what is a PSK? is it like a BOB? cause i just figuered that one out and now this ones floating around....help:confused:
