Para Cord Question... Potentially New Question!

I know there are a bunch of threads about this subject...

And people have asked a bunch of questions...

But, I had an experience that I have not read about, and I wanted to get your take on it...

I have bought para cord all over the place, from sporting goods stores to army surplus, in a number of different states, and while it was packaged many different ways, I was always careful to try to get the real deal, 7 strand, and I did.

But, one time, and I don't remember or know where...

I got some that was different.

This para cord seems stiffer, if that makes sense, like the innards (kern) fill the sheath (mantle) better than the average para cord. And, while all the other para cord I have bought has white kern, the kern of the one in question is black....

What is this cord, with the black kern, and how do I purchase it? I want more.

Thank you,
Marion

Same stuff as the striped para cord and from the same place...that information is of course... proprietary.:D:D

Bet one is surplus and the other not or they are imported from different countries. I used to get cord from these guys, maybe they would know as one source to check if it becomes a hard question to answer.

All of the military paracord (from parachute manufacturers) that I have sourced has had Dupont inner strands, which are always white. I haven't seen anyone that uses black, so I'm guessing it's either imported or a commercial paracord.

I am glad you stepped in, because I was just over at your site, and was curious about this 8 strand cord you sell.

Tell me more about it...

Is is stiffer in general, than the regular stuff? How does it differ?

It's slightly stiffer due to the extra strand. The stuff I sell has eight strands instead of seven because of the manufacturer. Since they actually use it on parachutes for the US military, breaking strength is very important to them. They were seeing breaks at around 550-600 pounds of static weight. That is what the mil spec is, but they wanted to exceed the spec, so they added the additional strand to bump it up to 650-700 pounds.

Mil spec is 7-9 strands, so they still fall under spec. Mil spec also covers color, so there are a couple I stock (orange and I forget what else) that are not technically mil spec.

The nylon sheath that they use is the same as what they used to use for 7 strand, meaning that adding an additional strand adds a bit of stiffness. I know I'm the one selling the stuff, but it is the best paracord I have ever seen, which was my main motivation in harassing the manufacturer until they would sell to me.

Well, I will give it a try. I love me some OD paracord, nothing like it. And no one has that Coyote around these parts, or that I have seen lately...
