cheaper than dirt usually has 1000 foot spools for like $40...a pretty good deal if you ask me.

Ten or twelve years ago I bought a wad of about 120 feet off a big military surplus roll I ran across in a junk shop on the side of US-27 several miles outside of Perry, a little town in North Florida. :D If I needed any more, though, I'd try to make real sure it's genuine US military surplus OD nylon 550 line with seven small twisted strands inside of a woven outer sheath. Those inner strands are useful for lots of things, easy to pull out of the outer sheath, and should probably hold about 50 pounds each.

I buy it milsurp on eBay.

Me too, I found a guy last summer selling actual parachute cord. I mean, it was the used shroud lines from chutes, came in 40-50' lengths. Each bundle was a slightly different shade of OD, but all seemed to be nearly brand-new... they must have some kind of regulation about not re-using the cords? I dunno but it was a good deal. I've used up one chunk for miscellaneous stuff, keep one in the "junk drawer" at home, and the rest are tucked into backpacks/PSK's etc.

Seems to me from browsing around, there are lots and lots of places with pretty similar prices. My only advice is to make sure it's the 7-strand, mil-spec cord like others have mentioned. It seems you can get the good stuff in all kinds of colors now, that's very cool.
