Para Military 2 Blade Play

I recently acquired a para 2 and have noticed some up and down blade play after about a week of use. I know spyderco has a decent warranty but does anyone know if I can solvethis issue on my own without having to send it in? Thanks.
Edit: I've noticed that this only occurs when I slowly open up the knife. If I flick it out with some authority it locks up solid with no play.

sounds like the lock bar hasn't settled in yet. use it hard for a few months and i bet it'll be nice n solid.

Loosen all the screws, including the pivot. Tighten them one at a time, pivot last.

Tried that but didn't seem to help. Can't even get it to lock solid with a hard flick now. Oh well may just give it time.

Let's see, did you try and open the knife with the pivot loose to make sure that the compression lock engages onto the tang? If the lockbar goes to the right and onto the blade correctly it's more than likely an alignment issue. I had a similar problem with a SE Para (original). The knife didn't feel right compared to another that was just about perfect. After loosening and tightening at the suggestion of many people I decided to send it back. If you can, take a pic of the spine of the knife, the actual lock area. I'm interested to see if it looks like the issue I had with mine.

umm weird...i got mine brand new and there is no play wat so ever....might want to consider sending it in for service.

Here are a couple pics of the lock itself while engaged. Picture quality may not be that great as i took it with my iphone so bear with me.

That's it. Looks like the lock is not engaging enough onto the ramp to the right. Short of trying to rotate the stop pin, not sure what would fix it.

I decided to just send the knife in. The knife is also off center to the left (not a big deal just enough to bug me though). Hopefully spyderco will be able to fix the problem as this will be my first encounter with there customer service and warranty.

Keep us posted, would you?

I got a lovely gray P2, and am thinking of getting a black one - be nice to know how things turn out

I dont mean to pull up a super old thread. But this same thing happened to me. And my lockup looks exactly the same as the one in the pictures. My biggest thing is, is it anything to worry about. And OP did you ever get yours fixed?

Thanks for digging this out. I am curious to hear how this worked out. Been looking at the Paramilitary 2, but have heard things about blade play.

Sure you did! ;)

Maybe with the P1. This might be only the second or third report I've read with the P2s.
