I took the plunge and ordered the plain edge / black G10 PM2 today. It's also my first Spyderco. So, for all of you lefties out there, how do you like the compression lock? Does it work pretty well for a lefty one handed?

I'm righty but carry my Para2 lefty (handgun strongside carry). The compression lock works great left handed. My pocket clip is set point-up left hand carry and it provides a place to keep my left hand fingers out of the way of the blade when closing one-handed. I'm becoming ambidextrous with the Para's help

I flick the blade open with the left hand middle finger to show off :smiley_simmons:

Out of the non ambidextrous knives the PM2 has the most left-friendly locking system that I know of. Better than liner or frame locks in my opinion.

I am right handed but frequently use my left hand to operate my knives. I found the compression lock awkward but doable left handed. When you're holding the knife in you're right hand it's easy because you can release the lock with you forefinger while holding the handle between your thumb and other three fingers. Left handed however you have to release the lock with your thumb which means you no longer have an apposable thumb to hold the handle, this makes it very awkward to have a solid hold on the knife. Maybe I was just doing it wrong though.

I'm left handed and just picked up a PM2 Friday. That's how I close it. I use my index finger in the hole to control the closing since my fingers are in the way.

Left handed you're not going to be able to flip it closed like you can with your right hand.

I would disagree, I flik my pm2 closed using my thumb on the lock and my fingers against the clip. I have never cut myself nor have i come close and once you practice it a few times you will find it not only easy but comfortable to close it one handed. Note i carry tip up so that might make a difference in the way i am handling the knife.

I'm a lefty and find the PM2 very easy to operate. You will adapt very quickly. It is also a great knife, one of spyderco's best in my opinion.

Thanks for all the feedback. Looks like it's not as ambidextrous as the Axis lock, but should be still very usable lefty. I'm looking forward to getting it. I was surprised to find it in stock (well known, reputable vendor). Within a couple hours of ordering, they were sold out. These things must be made with unobtainium.

Elisabeth ;)

I'm left handed, but for the life of me can't use the knife lefty I can flick and close much better with my right hand, then swap it over to use left handed very weird.
