What angle should I use on the shapmaker to sharpen a spyderco para military? The 30° (15° each side) or 40° (20° each side) . Thanks :)

You'll probably get better results with the 40 deg setting. The 30 deg is for back beveling, which a new ParaMilitary shouldn't need.

The paramilitary should be sharpened with the 30 degree rods. Back bevel only occurs on blades with a less acute edge than the para. I always sharpen my para at 15 degrees which is exactly what it is designed to take.

I thought all Spydy's were sharpened at 15oC per side? The S30V should be able to take that edge no problem...Might as well go with the sharpest angle to get the best cutting performance unless you are doing a lot of chopping.

Try the black marker trick. Mark your bevel on your blade on both sides and give it a few light strokes on your sm and see if the 15 degree setting is working all the way across your bevel. If its only back grinding.. then your gonna either need to swap to the 20 degree setting or regrind your bevel to suit.
