Anyone know an easy way to break the screw loose without damaging the stop pin, or anything else, in the process?

You can try using a soldering iron to heat the screw or soaking in very hot water for a few minutes. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1210503-Stop-pin-screw-just-turns-won-t-unscrew
