I received a pm2 this morning as a Christmas gift ( black blade black g10)
But I am considering returning it for a ZT 0566. Which I have handled and really like. They are very close in price at the store I buy from and out of the 2 I'm not sure which to choose.
Which will be better for edc? The weight of the ZT doesn't bother me at all infact I like the weight it has unlike the lightweight feel of the para. ZT also has elmax steel which I have heard is very good steel but the para has s30v which is also highly favored by many.
Let me know what you guys think I am heading to the store tomorrow and need to decide quickly.
Thank you!

You've had the opportunity to handle both. The decision is all yours. Either would make a great knife to carry.

It's really up to you. I haven't handled either one but from a look standpoint, I like the PM2 alot more. Also I'm not into flippers.

Unless you have to send one back, why do it? Variety is the spice of life and mild inoculation against wasting too much money on knives. I think the Paramilitary offers a better food prep blade, and those leaf blades are great pencil sharpeners.
The 0566 is killer for heavy duty use. I haven't sharpened pencils with mine yet.:)

I've had lackluster experiences with ZT's ELMAX and it's pretty widely acknowledged that on some batches of certain knives they run the heat treat too hot, which results in poor edge performance until the affected steel is sharpened away. If anyone has any experience with using the 0566 elmax, please chime in.

I love my para2's, but in the end there's no substitute for your own taste. They're both reputable companies with their respective followings, and they both make good products. Enjoy the decision!

I prefer the 0566 to the PM2.
But if I am going out with a larger knife I prefer the Military to the 0560.
This is just my preference.

You won't go wrong with either blade though.

Para 2 fits in my pocket better, and if you like the compression lock, it will be a fun knife to play around with. You can use a para 2, hard use like any folding knife. Good steel. If I only could get one it would be the para 2

There is absolutely nothing wrong with ELMAX. If a few people got bad heat treated knives, that's what the ZT warranty is for. I keep seeing the same slander being parroted about ELMAX over and over and I'm getting a little tired of it.

I have 3 ELMAX blades as they all perform on par with S30v if not better. I keep hearing the same stuff over and over and it just doesn't line up with my own experience and what I'm seeing with my own two eyes on the ELMAX knives I own.

I've got both and was EDCing the PM2 until I got the 566 in Nov and it's been my main EDC since. Haven't put either through any really tough use yet so can't speak on the edge retention. I prefer the 566 for it's smaller handle size, longer cutting edge and more robust build. I'm paranoid of damaging the tip on my PM2 because it's so fine and narrow. Funny thing is I use my Ladybug or Dragonfly (depending on which I'm carrying) for 90% of my regular EDC tasks, I just walk with the bigger 566 in case I need more knife for the odd job.

You received the PM2 as a gift, and it's a great knife, why not keep it? Why return a very nice and thoughtful gift?
