Just came up at BladeHQ (I can name them?)
I already have one otherwise I'd have clicked go straight away.

The brown scales? Do they make brown scale s30v? I saw the brown scale Pm2 at the factory sale for $55 and kicking myself for not buying it, it still pains me to this day.

I love my brown Para 2. Scales not as rough as others and easier on pants and I do notice a difference between S30 and S35. Grab one while you can!

What differences? I don't have any S35 yet, and S30 is probably my least favorite steel.

In my admittedly limited experience, I have not been able to discern any difference between S30V and S35VN.

From what I understand is that edge retention is same but the difference is in toughness which is hard to see in normal edc tasks

S35 goes longer between sharpening for me and seems to take a smoother edge compared to S30. I've also had S30 chip on me before (admittedly an older Millie). Maybe it's all in my head, but I do prefer S35 to S30 and think it's worth paying a little more for. YMMV.

I have seen the chipping in S35VN that others have described. It occurred when I profiled my edge to around 18 degrees per side using my EdgePro Professional. It happened on an Umnumzaan and a Native 5 light weight. I hadn't used the knives on anything rough, just some food, cardboard and clam shell packaging. The edge along the flat, close to the tang had chipped. It was clearly uneven, broken and ripping paper in the chipped areas.

So I pulled out the EdgePro and reprofiled those knives to 20 degrees per side. They still shave but I haven't had time to determine if 20 degrees is too acute yet.

To contrast this with S30V, I've profiled it down to 17 degrees per side and never seen any chipping. I like S35VN but just wanted to note that in my experience, it has chipped with profile angles that appear to be too acute.

Interesting, that's the opposite of what the claimed advantages are. I've never had chipping with either steel and I can't say i really notice a difference, but S35VN has been an awesome steel for me, and the brown Para2 is one of my favorite work knives. My edges are freehand on stones, but usually around 35 degrees.

For me S30 and S35 were just an introduction to powdered steels. If I'm going to pay a premium for a "supersteel" I'll go with S110V, S90V, etc. where I can really see a performance difference. I just think it's awesome that Spyderco has made all these steels so readily available, so that we all have a choice.

S110v is an awesome steel, I'd take it over s30 or s35 any day. I've been using my pm2 in s110v for over a month on tasks ranging from carving wood, to cutting tons of cardboard and haven't sharpened it yet. Ive stropped it at the end of every day it sees hard use and that's been enough to maintain its razor edge so far. It'll still pop hairs and slice phonebook paper cleanly into thin strips, but I am starting to notice stropping slowly isn't getting it back to as sharp as it was before. But it'll likely maintain its working edge for a very long time before I actually need to sharpen it. I'm going to keep using it and stropping it until it's completely dull before sharpening just to see how long this edge will last

I thought S35VN was just made simply to be easier to work with in manufacturing, and polish up better...

I personally cannot tell much, if any, difference between the two. They could've mis-stamped my Brown PM2 and Native and I probably wouldn't even know.

It's a great time to be a knife nut. All kinds of great steels, designs, sharpening options, a lot of stand up dealers, and a great forum to post experiences with all of them. Thanks for sharing everyone!

Just received this one in the mail the other day. Very happy so far, my first PM2. I was in need of something of this size after I misplaced my Stretch this summer, price was right.
