I have 1000' of P-cord arriving in an hour or so, and I was thinking about trying to wrap the handle on my Arc-lite.

I've seen good articles with pictures in the past, but can't seem to locate them now. Any pointers for a newbie? I've done some fobs (ala Sebenza), but never wrapped a handle.

Just experiment - you can redo it as many times as you want. When you get it the way you want it, you could apply some type of finish to the cord - any number of products will work. I'm currently experimenting With something called Mod Podge Matte. This is a sealer which hardens the cord and provides a far superior grip than paracord without it. Witness the epoxy coated wrap Mr. Siegle and others use.

averageguy: Can you post the details of Mod Podge Matte? Ie; where do you get it? How much does it go for? what about drying time? etc

thnks in advance,
doug

As far as I know - Micheal and Del at Runningdog do the best cord wrap ever...try this link...

Mike,

You might want to take a look at Strider Knives also.

Do a search in the Strider Forum, someone posted images of the method there.

With holes in the handle like the ArcLite, you can be creative in your wrap, and make it real 'purty.

I just bought a used CRKT Neck Peck (thanks Mo!) and went out and got a length of climbing accessory cord at a camping/outdoor store. First I did it with 3mm, but it seemed too thick (the NeckPeck is really tiny). I went to another store and got some 2mm. Climbing cord is great in that it comes in all kinds of multicolor patterns. The stuff I got is green, orange & purple. Anyway, I did it with a cross over pattern of my own making, drawing the two sides through the hollow center and crossing over to the other side, bringing back over & thru, etc. (kind of like tying shoe laces without the holes. At the end, I drew both ends through the lanyard hole, tied a knot, and left enuff length of a lanyard loop, tied another knot in the end of the loop. I think it looks great. Took me 10 minutes, and the cord was $.20 a foot (used 3 feet).

Wish I could post a pic.

I just read bigbore's link, and went to the CRKT site. I guess my "design" is not original, as the wrapped Stiff Kiss looks just like my Neck Peck ! With patterned cord, it really looks nice.

I've wrapped both my knife and my walking staff. I don't treat the knife wrapping with anything because it is a source of cord. If I need to tie up a tarp or something, I unwrap the knife. It's not as if it sees a lot of use... I'm a tramper (hiker for you US folks) so I'm not cutting trails, I'm not cutting wood, I'm not cutting dead animals bigger than birds or small fish (and those very rarely).

The cord I got was purple 2mm, and it looks really silly on the knife handle. White or black looks much better.

Cheers
Craig

P.S. I mail-ordered two Stiff Kiss knives from Australia (outdooredge.com.au) for less than the price of one in New Zealand. We have some screwy import duties...

To each his own with colors, I suppose. The 3mm I initially had on the Peck was yellow, with black & red accents, and I thought it looked nice, but the 3mm was too heavy. Not "covert" or stealthy, but since I'm not a Ninja, that's not an issue with me.
