Has anyone seen the hat bands and belts people make out of paracord? I want to make a hat band but I do not know how to end it without using a buckle. Does anyone have any suggestions? There must be something better/more useful than a buckle to use.

If your using paracord, all you have to do is cut the excess cord short and melt the end when your finished braiding it. Don't get the fire too hot or hold it at the end or the flame or it makes it black or burnt looking.

THis is from Plainsman on Plainsman's cabin on the ezboard.

He has the braclet which is 15 feet of 550 cord, an sak executive, and a BSA hotspark all incorporated into the braclet. Very cool. Very minimal but effective way to carry gear on you 24/7. I am going to have to try it someday. :)

I used a chain braid as shown here http://www.layhands.com/Knots/Knots_Decorative.htm#ChainStitch
to make a hat band.
I started with about three inches of cord before starting the chain stich.
Made the chain so it stopped just short of going all the way around my hat and left about three inches of cord after the chain stopped. Then I tied the two sections of plain cord together, adjusting the tightness so it wouldn't fall off my hat.

You could use the snake knot to finish a hatband like the one I've done in this photo.
