Hey all!

I just finished up my latest knife:

And i am going to do a kydex sheath, I think my first step is to tape up the paracord, then heat the kydex in my toaster oven then press.

One of my concerns is how will the retention be and how do I increase the retention?

I also don't know if the dips in the paracord will cause too much friction with the kydex and make everything "sticky" as it comes out of the sheath.

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate the help and the tolerance of a sheath newbie. :)

never did a sheath for a knife with paracord but i think i would rather stay clear of the para for retention and use the choil(?) instead

Here is what I do :)

First you have to make sure the para-cord is tied very tight if not the going in and out of the sheath will pull it around. From your pics it does not look very tight ?
To get para-cord really tight soak it before you tie and let it dry.

Yes, Do tape the para-cord because you do not want most of the retention on the cord.

Your retention will be on the finger guard area, you may have to do some fine tuning.

Hope that helps

Pretty knife. I admire nice plunges, they can be tricky.

Any reason for not ca/epoxy finishing the cord? I know some people like to be able to remove it. If you did finish the cord, you wouldn't have to worry about the Kydex messing with it. Either way, I'd just keep the Kydex away from the handle and use the ricasso to get your retention like the others said. Take that for what it's worth though, I've not used Kydex yet. :)

Thanks for the compliments! No I there are no reasons I haven't put some sort of finish on the handle, I just might have to try it out now.

And thanks for the advice.

If you do, I like ca for the job. Don't overdo it as it can turn white. An acid brush works well, although it will become hard very quickly. Best to have a few on hand. Good luck.
