Paracord Hat Band or Belt?

I am looking for instructions on how to braid paracord into a belt or hat band. Or both. The idea would be to have a good sized length for emergency use that would be there when I needed it. I remember seeing one design on a British site a while back, but that one seems to have died. Any info most appreciated.

Thanks!

Are you refering to the Slatt Rescue knot? I've saved the page from the website and I also have the jpg which shows how to tie it. I could e-mail to you if you want it.

I've been thinking along the same lines.

The hat band could be a continuous length, as opposed to several individual piece plaited together, as a belt would have to be.

"Morrow's Guide to knots" is a good source.

can you post it here?

Slatts Rescue Belt Knot: This was the original that I was looking for (can't quite figure how to post the link, but if you search under that, it should come up.

Just a sidebar note: one reason I want to carry some cord this way is that I have had pieces confiscated by airport security recently. Fortunately not in the U.S.A. (YET!), but in Latin American airports. Think they were afraid I might threaten to hang myself............?

That's pretty clever, allows easily determined width, and you just keep going until you have enough length . . .

I knotted a shoulder strap for my grab bag. After a couple of false starts it went quick. Go to the knitting store and get an aluminum crochet hook, about 5/16" diameter.

If anybody calls you a sissy for sitting and crocheting, hit them with your purse.

Howdy,
Can I ask,why not just use a chain knot? This is a photo of the paracord in my kit. Its 70 ft long in a 3 foot knot. I just folded the cord in 4's and started a chain knot.
