I guess I'm putting this in the right spot if not please move it.

So i consider myself pretty damn good with making stuff outta Paracord, not as good as some better than average but I have an issue.

I like lanyards/fobs on most of my knives. It's my preference. I have a few knives particularly the Kershaw pictured below with no lanyard hole. The pocket clip has a hole but for the life of me I can't find a way to attach a lanyard so it lays right. What do you guys think.

Tl;Dr how do I attach a lanyard so it looks good and lays right? Pics if u don't mind

I was gonna PM the master Gary W. Graley Gary W. Graley but I figured a thread might garner so cool pics.

I’d be happy to help but I don’t see a photo of the knife

Pocket clips usually have holes for screw access, they aren't going to be ideal for fobs with the added risk of bending the clip. If the knife has standoffs instead of spacers, you can loop around the one furthest back with smaller cord to provide an attachment.

Drill another hole at the top, in the bend of the clip? Use a small bit, like 1/16" as a pilot hole then open it up from there.

TRfromMT has a good idea there too just be sure to smooth any sharp edges of the hole drilled.

For knives that had that situation and they did not have a spacer to tie around, also a good idea that BitingSarcasm mentioned, and one I use often, I would tie it around the clip itself and use a whipping knot to keep it snug to the end of the clip, like these

On one of the knives I even tried to 'forge' a piece of 10 gauge solid copper wire into a loop and the one end was flattened out to fit into the area of the clip, but while a good idea, it wasn't the right medium to use.

and here is a Link to my tutorial for more detail

Edited to add that Chip's idea he just posted while I was typing, looks like it would work well there too with the large hole provided !

Thanks guys for all the ideas. I tried your idea a couple different ways Gary and I couldn't get it to lay how I wanted it. I never thought of Chips idea I think I'm gonna give that a try when I get home. I'm probably still going to put your whipping knot on there to hold it snug.

I like the whipping technique for securing small cords like keychains and stuff. It's also great for it's intended use, which is to stop the ends of bigger cord from fraying.

For something like this, where I feel like there will be more force put on the cord, I think I personally would prefer a knot. In this case a self tightening loop knot is probably what you want. I suggest the scaffold hitch, AKA scaffold knot. Fast forward to 1:45 to see the basic knot and how it is tied.

How about adding a small spilt key ring? It will change the way the cord lays by 90degres

Or take the clip off put a thin piece of stainless under the clip with a hole for the cord.

That's actually what's on there now. I ran out of time so I haven't tried any of the other options yet.
