Hi All,
So I'm new to this forum, and I see that alot of you have a braided paracord lanyard on your folders -
Can you tell me about these?
What is the thought behind them? What are they for? What do they do? Etc.
Show me some pics of your while you are at it...
Thanks!
Matt

I do it for 2 reasons

1. I carry a SAK so no pocket clip. the knotted paracord stays close to the top of my pocket making it easy to reach down and pull the knife out.

2. If I ever need a couple of feet of paracord I have it.

I love them on my knives because they work great to yank it out of a tight pocket, or if you have gloves on you can still get it out. They also look pretty sweet, IMO.

I've come partial to the box weaved lanyard style with old Sebenza parts as beads.

I carry a small fixed-blade with a 3-finger handle. A small loop of paracord is great for extra grip. Also, I like to put my pinky-finger through it. That way you don't lose your knife if you drop it, or you can let the knife hang if you need to free-up that hand.

They are very good for collecting all kind of dirt and grease, and for getting caught into something... Great staff!

Hi Matthew,

They look cool and knots in general are fun, useful and satisfying to learn, but I'm not a big fan of anything extra dangling off my knife and making more bulk in my pocket too (or drawing attention to it). The one real practical reason I use them (only on certain knives) is if you are boating, kayaking, slicing your apple sitting on a bridge high above a river, etc. and you can't afford to drop a knife overboard. I like a simple bowline or double bowline on my knife and a quick-release single overhand loop attaching the other end to my belt or belt loop. If I drop it, I haven't lost it and if it gets caught in or on something it won't take me with it because it's got the quick-release loop. Of course, try it out first to get it set-up to the tension you can live with. I'd love to hear how others use lanyards as 'knife leashes'. If in the woods, I carry extra paracord neatly coiled in my pack----I don't want to have to sit down and try to unravel a tight, monstrous knot when I need cordage NOW!! :S There are better ways to carry cord.

Make one of these. With a 1/2" Steel ball bearing or a .50 caliber lead ball inside, you can smack the snot out of bad dude. One shot in the melon with that, and he's getting coloring books for Christmas, for life.

That is not very useful. What if the bad guy doesn't celebrate Christmas? What then?

Not only is it not useful, but it would also qualify as a sap in many places. Hope you like being in jail.

At this point in time I'd like to point out that monkey fists could be made as saps, but by design they are heaving knots.
For decoration you can make them with pretty much anything inside.

I use them on my 'real' pocket knives, so I don't have to dig in my watch pocket.

Interesting thoughts and ideas.
Keep them coming...

(More pics too)
