So,

I got a couple new knives yesterday online (Benchmade mini grip in yellow and a black spyderco ladybug ..

My question is .. Do you all attach paracord to the lanyard hole or keep them as is .. I am debating if I should order some paracord from countycomm and use it on my spyderco ..

Suggestions?

I'm assuming you are talking about putting a "pull" in the lanyard hole. A lot of people do it, but I don't. I keep my knives clipped to my pocket and see no reason to have a rat-tail hanging out of my pocket. If you are attaching the Ladybug to a key chain, then I'd use paracord. I don't like using knives on keychains that are connected with rings, it is difficult to maneuver them when the keys move wherever the knife moves; paracord will give you some added flexibility.

In general I attach paracord (Reeve lanyard style, wrapped tight so it's rigid) on my compact (es. Delica) & mini folders (es. Lava), I don't attach paracord on my full-size folders.

I found the paracord lanyard useful to extract the folder from the pocket or from the waistband & it is also a grip extension for folders with small handle.

Paracord historically was used by field soldiers to secure equipment to their body to prevent loss. Sailors and airmen use it for the same reason, plus to prevent injury or damage to other objects if it hits point first. It was called "dummy cord" in the day and some troops even had it on their battle rifle - just like a retention lanyard on a pistol.

If you don't work high steel or over water, on inflatable craft, or over places that loss of a knife could cause injury or simply make you unhappy, you don't need it. If you do use it, a 5-6 ft length is what it takes.

Some wrap paracord on fixed blades as handles. It's debatable if that is best.

Decorative lanyards macrame'd with beads is a current fashion. Glow in the dark skull beads, monkey knots, obtuse colors, and complicated braids are decor, not a simple way to store 5 ft of paracord. They are obviously not a tactical solution - they are decoration. Most are looped through lanyard holes, or other convenient places, and most are useless in their finished state except as decor or a pull tab. Some even have tab pullers or can openers on them.

What do you really want a lanyard to say about you - if you want a lanyard at all?

Yeah thats what I am talking about .. For my small folder (I should have been more, clear, sorry), I thought the paracord would make for a good pull-tab ... I clip my large folders to my pocket .. :)

I attached one to my EDC BM Rukus, but there really is no need for it, and I don't like the cord hanging out of my pocket. I think it would just attract more attention, and could snag something and possibly my knife could be taken from my pocket without me knowing.

Maybe useful on something very small though, for some extra grip, but IMO that's about it.

Some people attach it lanyard style to knives as decoration or to facilitate an increased area of grip. Others just find it functional. :)

I have a small lanyard on my SAK and one each on my leathermans they suit there purpose for the most part imo, I tryed one on my large clipped EDC folder, didnt work out to well. paracord does serve a function one knives, its just a matter of what that function is to the user. I say, give it a try and see if you like it. I would for the lady bag, at least to see if it serves a useable function. and if you do post some pics to! id like to see what you came up with and what you think about it.
