I was looking for the Sterling Superior Sharpener and found it at www.fatiguesarmynavy.com . I notice that they have what they describe as "GI 520lb Test Paracord". Anyone know how this compares to the 550
(which I see more commonly)? Also, any alternative sources for the sharpener?

Hi CMC,

I still have the Sterling sharpener with glued to the side a small flat diamond hone.

It works but it works through scraping away metal from the edge of your knife and if used with to much force, loads of metal :(

Personally I find it a better idea to get a small diamond home like a DMT Mini-Sharp:

or a small ceramic crock sharpener like:

http://www.dirtcheapknives.com/poccrocstic.html

or the Gatco TriSeps in ceramic or even diamond:

http://www.tadgear.com/X-treme Gear/gatco.htm

These are all more versatile but to be completely honest I still have the Sterling sharpener tucked in one of my survival kits.

About the paracord 520 lbs break strength, perhaps it's a typo and it should say 550 lbs break strength OR it's not the real mccoy paracord and they are hoping that people don't 'see' that and read the 520 as 550.
Give them a call and they should be able to tell you if it has the seperate inner strands or not.

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

Bagheera

Piet,
