While i love the versitilty and strength of the 550 paracord....i'm having alot of problems dealing with the ends of the cord where the inner strands come out (and extend further than the outter sheath). Ive tried to melt the ends closed but that didn't work too well. I would love to learn how to create a "clean and closed end" when using paracord for various tasks. Any and all help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks in advance

I've never had a problem with melting the ends to secure the threads. Usually I hold the lighter so the heat from the flame melts the cord (not the flame itself). I then take my fingers and quickly squeeze the melted ends together. Works every time for me.

You might also try to get a clean cut in the cord before you melt it. Try to pull the outer material a little over the thread before melting the ends.

Hope this helps!

I just cut it with a sharp knife and roast the ends with a lighter. Just be sure to moisten your fingertips before pinching and don't let the molten stuff fall on your skin. It's like freaking NAPALM when it hits you hot.

Eric's right on. Heat up an old crummy knife blade hot enough to melt plastic and gently rest the cord on the edge and it'll separate all by itself with nice clean ends:)
