Hello bladeforum-ers.

Does anyone know how to do this style paracord wrap. The knife pictured is made by Tracker Dan.

Thanks

It is called something like "interlocking loop", but I forget exactly how it is done.

IIRC, You start with a square knot, go around the blade and repeat on the other side, go back and then pull one of the ends through the side of the knot as you make the next square knot, go back to the other side and pass one end through the last knot, .... etc. It locks each knot to the adjacent ones when done.

I'm almost positive that Tracker Dan uses a method very similar to, but not exactly what is shown in ron_m80's video. Instead of starting in the middle and taking the two ends in opposite directions, put both of the ends through together and work them down the same end of the handle.

Thanks guys. I know more now than when I posted the question. I'll put some sweat into figuring it out this weekend.

Wow that does not look like a very comfortable handle lol

I'm not too sure but those look like they could be square knots.

It follows the same pattern, but lacks the function, therefore not a square knot. I will make it a point to check the Ashley's book at home on the shelf for a name, and maybe instructions if they are clear enough.

It's the same knot used for the standard paracord bracelet only the knots run down the width instead of along the edge. The tang takes the place of the 2 cords that run through the centre.
I believe it's called a Solomon bar. It does look like a bunch of square knots.
There are a bunch of videos out there on how to tie that knot in a bracelet, you would just have to rotate it 90 degrees to make it look like that.

I need to re do my "how to" video on how to do my wrap. I did a video a long time ago but don't know if it's still floating around.

JT that is a great comfy looking wrap.

Colin thanks. That's what Stormdrane told me also when I emailed him earlier. I'll give that a whirl.

Per: Clifford W. Ashley;

These knots are under the chapter called "square knotting". I believe that one you first showed may be called "the single tatted bar", knot #2497 in the Ashley's book. If you wanted the knotted work on both sides I believe you would use the "Solomon Bar", knot #2496. [/end C.W.Ashley]

I've been trying knots since I was pretty young, I hope those names and a reference might actually help. There are so many tutorials out there, and not many of them use the proper name for the work so it could muddle your search results. It looks as if the "Solomon bar" is popularly called a cobra stitch, or the strider wrap....

I didn't read you post when I posted above.

The "JT Wrap" is an awesome handle wrap. It takes a bit of time, and you need to make a little crochet hook like tool ( I use an antique boot/corset hook). I have done it in on several knives and on a wakizashi and it was really great. I harden the wrap with epoxy after all is snug. I had the downloads on the old computer, but they apparently aren't on this one. (Another reason I need to pull the old hard drive and transfer everything.)

JT, the old link with the video and the link with the five files seem dead now. You were selling DVDs right when things went south back in 2008. I may have to look in my DVD stacks for one. I don't recall if you sent me one back then.
If you get things settled down and make new DVDs, I bet a lot of folks would like one. If you just want to make a video and post it here, I will make sure to move it to the stickys.

I have the original master copy of the dvd, I found it when moving. I poped it in the DVD player the other day and got a kick out of it. Man a lot has changed sence then not including me getting fatter. Well not fat per say just not looking half starved like I did in that video. Plus I added background music and after watching it I relized It was way to loud and had to go. Also I have refined the process a bit more and simplified the tool (paint can opener lol), works amazing. Give it a buffing to remove any burs and your golden. But I would love to re do the video for the forum, kinda give something back so to speak.
