have any of you had any issues with the izula rusting under the paracord? it seems like the cord would keep moisture in and maybe cause some rust. just wondering. thanks.

I've kept mine wrapped/left it wet before when fishing in the summer, I didn't change it for 3 days and was damp every morning. Eventually it got all nasty with fish juice, so i took it off and there was no pitting or anything on the engraving. Probably had to do with the rust inhibitor that the izula comes coated with from the factory.

Just to be safe, you could rub the laser engravings with beeswax, mineral oil or even do a clearcoat of nailpolish before you wrap it.

Other than that, any rusting that occurs should be minimal.

The coating should protect it. As wolffbite said, the engraving would be the biggest risk, although mine has never rusted at all anywhere.

I stripped my coating off and forced a patina on the steel to give it protection. Even still, underneath the paracord is free of rust. I am also an avid kayaker and my Izula is around my neck on every journey, so that thing get's wet on a regular basis. The patina has protected it everywhere.

I wouldn't be concerned about it. There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 Izula's out there, and many of those are paracord wrapped, and I can assure you that a vast majority of those Izula owners have rust free knives...

It doesn't hurt to check it now and again, but like I said, I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

yeah, i wasn't too worried. thanks for the input though. i bet that izula makes a perfect necker for kayaking! i still haven't bought any of these knives yet, but i'm planning on getting the skeleton crew down (izula, 5, junglas) and then filling in where i see need. honestly, i'm not sure i'll need anything after those three plus a good folder, but you never know. :)

I had mine wrapped up with para cord and wore it as a necker most of the time and do to sweat and moisture it rusted pretty bad after about 3 weeks. So I unwraped it and buffed off the rust with some steel wool. Then coated it with clear fingernail polish. I had the same wrap on there for 4 months and just changed it yesterday. Surprise no rust.
