I use the simple 'whipping knot'. Google 'whipping knot' for illustration.

For my use, I prefer solid-core nylon or starter cord to paracord. Starter cord holds it's round shape under tension with zero long-term stretch and better grip security. Both grip diameter and grip security are affected by the cord diameter you choose.

Particularly: switching form Pict1 to Pict2. The remaining steps are easy.
