Paracord wrapping techniques

So I finally got some paracord. I'm wanting to make wrap a knife handle in it, and also make some "danglies" on existing knives. I realize that dangly is completely anti-survival, but I can't think of a better work, other than "fob".

I'd like a wrist strap (unless this is a dumb idea for some reason), but I'd also like a way to have a decent amount of cord on the knife (on the handle or hanging from a hole on the handle) so I could have some emergency stash.

Are there any good howtos out there?

'Lanyard' is the word you're looking for. Uncle Google will show you how to tie a bunch of different patterns.

EDIT: on reading this later, it sounded like it could be taken as condescending. It's not meant that way at all.

Thanks! Any guesses on the length of this cord?

The honest answer is "I don't know", because I never tried it. I could try unwrapping my strider and see how long the paracord is...

The "smart" answer is: long enough!:D

Most sources I've found say that as a general rule you want to have a foot of cord per inch of handle to be wrapped.

I use paracord for boot laces, and I leave them real long. They wrap around my ankles about half a dozen times, but there is plenty there.
