The parade went well. Weather was superb, the crowds were huge - 100,000 people. It was a great night.
Just as we reached the actual start of the parade ( you have been queued up and crawling tightly together for an hour at that point), the officials stopped our unit and had some people step out in front of us. They appeared to be a small walking unit with a banner. I figured that they were late and were being slipped in a last minute. As the gap between the last unit and us got long ( they normally keep us tail to nose tight), they unrolled the banner. It said, "FIRST PLACE". They spaced us a good 30 yards behind the unit in front of us, and left a similar space behind. We had our own little parade, with full attention of the crowd. The parade judges also came over and handed me a nice silver tray .
I am attaching some shots of me ( the conductor), John Cog ( engineer), the kids, and my daughter ( who helped me work on the float).
